I have download Pegasus 4.41 on my vista laptop. The install seemed to go OK, but when I try to start the program, the splash shows and thats it. No program.
I have tried changing Compatibility to XP and to run as administration. Still just a splash, then nothing.
The event viewer does not show anything.

Try installing to c:\pmail and use c:\pmail\mail for the mailboxes.
Pegaus was set up using the default setup setting.
the Pegasus shortcut is set to
C:\PMAIL\Programs\winpm-32.exe -roam -A -I don
and the mail files are in C:\PMail\Mail
even with I try to run winpiM-32.exe from the directory itself, I get the same results;
--I get the "allow to run this program", I give permission, the Pegasas splash shows, then nothing
Should I install the programs somewhere else? Is there some permission I need to set elsewhere?

I made a copy of all the \program files and added them under c:\PMail, then tries running winpm-32.exe
same results, splash and then nothing--Don

Do a new install to c:\pmail not a copy. Test the program to ensure it works. You can then copy everything but the pmail.ini file from the old HOME and NEW mail directory to the new HOME and NEW mail directory. It should not work. You will need to re-add the POP3 and SMTP setup and re-build any identities yuo have previously used.
I did new install of v4.41, same story, splash and nothing. I then did a 4.5 download, same story-splash and nothing. Checked the event log and nothing shows up. I checked it to run in XP mode and call it from both the short-cut and as the admin from C:\Pmail--Don

I guess the next step is to look at the rights. The only reason I can see that you would have a failure like this is that you do not have rights to some directory and/or file. The users needs all rights to their mail directories and create/write rights to the TEMP/TMP directories. Are you running Vista as an admin user or normal user. If as a normal user try running as the admin user.
Hi, I am experiencing the same problem. I am starting PM 4.5 from the network (via Novell Netware) from X:/pmail/winpm-32.exe. The Splash screen shows up and then nothing (the process terminates). I tried installing PM to a local disc (C:/pmail) in 4.51, 4.52 and 4.61 versions and still the same scenario. Few weeks ago the program normally worked, but unfortunately I am unable to tell what significant changes I have made since then.
I can show the run log captured by Sysinternal's Process Monitor: http://pastebin.com/w153KYaz - it may help, I don't know which messages may be important and which don't. Thanks in advance for any reply.

Is this a clean install or an update, IOW: Are you accessing a pre-existing mailbox with pre-existing settings?

It is an update from 4.4 version. This probrably means, that there was pre-existing mailbox. I can access the directory with all the mailbox-realted files (all the *.cnm, *.pmi and other files). Is there something I can try to do with those files?

Check here, here and here for possible issues, and using the most current Pegasus Mail version is usually a good idea as well.
