There is a simpler way to do this, assuming you each have separate usernames. Get the name of the folder from Pegasus Mail (xxxx.pmm). Open My Computer, go the folder containing that file, right-click it and set the security so that just your user account has access to it. When other people log on and use the same email account, they will not be able to access your folder. I've done this where I work and it works fine.

Not with PMail but you may be able to do this with one of the file encryption utilies that are available to encrypt and protect files with a password.

but i don't get it.  i know file encryption utilities, and know how to e. g. hide a folder in windows xp.

BUT i want to LOCK a folder INSIDE the mail client. let's say i have an incoming folder,

and a few others one of them named XYZ, where all the mails from my friend XYZ go to.

Now i want to lock this specific XYZ folder, so that my relatives can use my mail account,

but NOT open the XYZ folder.

The file encryption utility would not hide a file, it would just ask for a password when the file is accessed.  This way when you tried to access the folder in PMail a password request would pop-up.  I've used these file protection utilities in the past and they worked.  You can also put this file in a separate directory and use "Add mailbox to list" to access this folder from a separate directory.  In this case the directory would be read/write for your user ID and unreadable for others.  Finally, you could put this folder on a USB device that required a password and olny use the "Add mailbox to list to access the folder.

Personally I'd install as multiuser and make each user have their own mail directory where only they had read/write access.

the problem is, that file encryption utilities make different extensions to the file. so pegasus doesn't recognize the file as a *.PMM anymore.

any hints?

Sorry, no hints.  It's been years since I did this and the one I used did not change the file extension. Of course you can move the folder to a different directory and/or drive that is only available to you.

finally found a solution.

 there is a tiny app called file lock from http://www.toplang.com/filelock.htm  that does it.

in the app just choose the *.PMM file that holds the content of your pegasus folder.

u can also hide the file.
