PMail Hangs on Opening - Help Please

Thomas,

Thanks for the tip about deleting/renaming the .CNM files.  I crashed Pegasus today, and was searching the Internet for a solution - and found this forum!

Lory

Help please. version w32-450-pb1

When I attempt to open PMail  I get the usual Mailbox is Locked error message but because there is no-one else using the program I click continue.

However, when the PM window opens it is blank (no folders etc visible) and a message in the status bar says Applying Mail Filtering Rules and the program hangs.

This problem occurred after attempting to send a mail with a 10Mb attachment (have done that before), a failure to send message appeared and Pmail crashed.

Can someone please advise me how I can proceed, preferably without losing any mails. I do have a back-up from last Sunday if all else fails.

Thanks,

Terry.

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probaby going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.    Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...

2.    Select and edit the control definition

3.    Select the "Message tests" tab.

4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes in each message"

Thomas,

Thank you, that worked. The message causing the error was the failed to send error message, that was the one with the large attachment.

Thanks too for the advice on setting a limit to message size. I'll try it out.

Terry.
