If you are just behind me, do not follow me as I do not know where to go.  HA!  Just strange is my middle name and after that is 'Ding-a-ling', I took the blame for anything that went wrong at my work then went in and fixed it.  I regret not taking any programming courses or any college as far as that goes, now my time is taken up by these systems and trips to Dr's visits for my Wife.

 Had a problem getting the new version working after the install, that folder is 'Read Only' and the bearhtml.dll file would not load, so I went in and changed it.  Still would not load so with my unzipper program, 7-Zip, just had it rename that file and write in the new '*.dll' and now it works.  This Vista is a PAIN-in-the-___, if you know what I mean, but; is so much more secure, this I like.

This has been going on for several days, some days it would work alright but now if a message has graphics embedded it hangs.  Makes no difference if there are only 2 to 10 or more.  The only option so far that I have been able to use it avoid those with graphics or just abort the program and then when it is reopened  the preview pane is disabled.

 Any ideas would be a HELP, oh, yes, I did do a reinstall with a fresh download of the setup for 4.41 and it did not do anything to clear this problem.

Not sure what to tell you but hanging can be caused by a number of things. 

1.  I would first turn off the content control and filtering to see if this solves the problem.  If it does then you need to check these out. 

2.  The next thing I would do is to verify that you are not using anything between the POP3 server and PMail.  Normally this is an anti-spam or anti-virus program and both of these things are known to cause this sort of problem. 

3. Finally if neither of these do not solve the problem you may have a problem with packet fragmentation.

You should take a look at your log file, Bearhtml.log.  If you haven't already done so, create one with Notepad, in your newmail directory. In order to get the most detail out of Bearhtml, you need to ensure that LogLevel=  in Bearhtml.ini is set to the value 5

It sounds like you may be timing out. A simple test with your favorite browser to somewhere like www.cnn.com, will attempt to down 30+ graphics files, none of which is particularily large.

You should also be on Bearhtml 4.5+

Thank you for this information as I have several Malware programs on my system and couple of AV and a  firewall program.  Will start with the removal of the last installed and move up the line until things start to work normal again.  Will report back on my results, GOOD or bad.  I do not expect things to be solved that easy, never are for me.

So far nothing has done any good.  Just did a check and in the Status Bar reports "Downloading 15 graphics (1sec to go)" and that is when it freezes.  If I click on any thing else the screen will turn opaque/translucent  and the only thing I may reach is the "X" in the upper right-hand corner to close the program.  A window popsup that tells me the program has stopped working and do you want to close it or wait until it finishes?  I just tell it to close.

Still working on what could be the problem,

The mention of the download process shows an old message format.  I suspect the version of Bearhtml you are using is very old. Could you check in your Bearhtml.log after you open the first html message in a session and check the version info.  Alternatively right click on Bearhtml.dll in Windows Explorer and click Properties and then the Version tab to get the version you are using.

 This may take me a little while as I am working with another computer at the same time as I am attempting to answer your request.

The file version for bearhtml.dll is 2.7.6.0 OH! by the way, I am on Vista Home Premium SP1 and the tab is Details under Properties this is just to keep you on the right track and to show you I do know what or some what of how to find the info you request.  Not a programmer just a very curious USER.

You are way old in version of Bearhtml.  You should be on version 4.6+   I cannot help you with that old version as it is at least two years old.  You can get the latest production version from this site at:

If you have special settings in your current Bearhtml.ini you should rename that file so that after installation of the Bearhtml 4.6.3 you can edit into the new Bearhtml.ini from your old settings.

The version I am on is what I had downloaded when I started this system 2 July, 2008, I have never setup any of the bearxxx features because I had no idea what it was for, now maybe I will use it more.  Definitely not less, and NO there are not any special settings in the bearhtml.ini file as after your last message is when I set it up for the first time.

This is not necessary as the first letter is not any good, HOPE is not a part of what you do, this has been DEFINITELY a very LARGE HELP, HTH, just wish there was more that I could do to HELP you as well as David, with the economy the way it is now this prospect has had to be moved farther into the future.  One day maybe I can give you both a surprise.

 I have the updated versions you so graciously provided links to for me to download.  Now if I just could get David to understand my copy of Pegasus Mail v4.41 (Win32), July 16, 2006 has done a very GREAT job for me, except the right edge of the screen for Folders on the left and messages listed in the right panel and the preview area below that is not fully extended to the edge.  He and Stephenson both say I just have not clicked the middle box of the upper right hand corner, I have and even sent them a screen shot and they still do not understand.

I know you have nothing to do with this type of issue, just wanted to vent my frustrations.
