The pmail.ini entry "Home mailbox location" could be doing this.

I have used Pegasus mail for many years on a windows network with 2 users with the mailboxes being held on a computer which is only used for holding data. All computers are using XP Pro SP2 and 1 is running 4.50 P1beta the other 4.41

I recently had to replace the 4.41 computer and copied all the Pmail files to their original location. Pegasus mail opened fine in the correct mailbox and previewing new mail etc was fine. However when creating new mail message, clicking Send, (spell check followed), then there was a long (50/60 secs) delay from the question Copy Self.
Also if I clicked Exit immediately after opening - the folders close and program locks, again for around 50/60 secs then closes. So I wiped clean and did a new install using 4.50P1Beta with exactly the same problem.

So I installed on another computer on the network, which doesn't normally use email, set new Home & New Mail folders on the server and found the following.
Open  - Exit. folders close, locks up for 60 Seconds.
Open with "Automatically open new mail folder" unticked - Exit, closes instantly.
Open as above again, click on Folders icon, exit, locks up again.
Open as above clcik on address books or distribution lists, exit closes instantly.

Basically 2 computers have this problem, one doesn't. All computers use the same network cards and all network settings are identical.

I have tried just about everything  including using the same Home & New folders used by the one computer that works perfectly.

Just need a few more ideas to try., it seems it locks whenever new mail folder is opened, but only on the 2 new installs.

What is happening on closing is that a number of files are written, folders closed/deleted.  This sounds like the program either can't write the files (hierarch.pm, state.pmj, folstate.pm, pmail.ini) or delete the deleted messages file.  I would,

1.  Verify you can open and save the specified files with Notepad.

2.  Manually delete the deleted messages file.

3.  Go through all the folders and compress them.  With PB1 you can use the program mbxmaint.exe in the program directory to do the folder maintenance all at once.

Thanks Thomas I have done everything you said above as well as completely re-installing the network but still the problem is there. For instance create new mail message, add attachment, it takes 3 minutes before a 3kb text file is added (from a local or network drive) then another couple of minutes after clicking the send button.  Remember this only happens on 2 out of 3 workstations.

So I gave up on that and moved all the files from my server to a network backup drive and everything works correctly except, all new mail is download to the old location despite changing the config files, and the ini file in the newmail box. Below is the info from the current setup. How is it finding the previous new mailbox location (\\server\mail\all) ?
