Hi guys,
this is my first post as a new user, so I'll introduce myself first. My name is Thomas Morwinsky and I've been a happy PM user for almost 13 years. Within the last week an annoying problem came up though (I found similar problems in other threads here, but they didn't really fit to me).
I am located in Germany and use GMX. At first sending mail became unreliable (I did not change any settings in Pegasus; it just came out of the blue), but it worked mostly if I tried several times or re-started PM. For the past two or three days this doesn't work anymore and sending has become impossible, though receiving works fine. In addition, sending through the web-interface of GMX works fine as well.
EDIT: I am using Windows XP Pro on the latest patch-level and PM v.4.41
GMX sent me a mail on March 12th that they will be disabling "APOP" or "CRAM-MD5" authentification after March 16th. That wasn't a problem, since I already used a secure connection by STARTTLS before (without any issues). I log in by STARTTLS and SMTP authentification with my GMX member number and password (hasn't changed either).
The log I get is like the following:
>> 0025 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
>> 0010 250-SIZE
>> 0022 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN
>> 0022 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
>> 0014 250 STARTTLS
<< 0010 STARTTLS
>> 0038 220 2.7.0 Ready to start TLS {mp034}
<< 0020 EHLO [192.168.1.2]
>> 0035 250-mail.gmx.net GMX Mailservices
>> 0014 250-8BITMIME
>> 0025 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
>> 0010 250-SIZE
>> 0022 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN
>> 0022 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
>> 0014 250 STARTTLS
<< 0012 AUTH LOGIN
>> 0018 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6
<< 0014 MTAyNDc1OTM=
>> 0018 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6
<< 0014 c2Fpcm9sdmFy
>> 0050 535 5.7.0 Incorrect username or password {mp034}
The last (mp...) can also take other numbers. I already had mp35, 60, 64 etc.
I also tried the other authentification methods offered by PM, but they produce similar results (I can post those logs as well if that would help).
It might be a problem specific to my GMX account in PM, since my wife who is on another machine can log in to GMX via PM and send mails using identical authentification method to mine. I can also log in to another provider and send mails via PM through him without any issues. I am really annoyed at the problem with my GMX account, since this is my main account with thousands of archived mails since about 1997.
Thanks
Thomas
