Hello all,
A friend of mine who uses Pegasus Mail is having trouble sending mail. She gets an error message saying something about a handshake error. I have checked her sending mail settings and there is no reason that this should be happening from that point of view. She has changed nothing from having sent mail successfully up to yesterday. She is using the smtp settings from her Internet Service Provider, which is a cable company, and has called them to ask about it. They say there is nothing they can see from their end of things. Another friend using the same cable company can send mail with no problem.
It is not to a specific address as she has 5 mails in the queue to different people, none of which will go.
I have had her start to keep a log of messages sent, but am not sure what I would be looking for in that log.
Any help would be appreciated. What could cause that to happen, if the cable company can find no reason?
The handshake error is a TCP/IP level error. For some reason PMail is being blocked or the connection lost during the sending. Some things to check
1. If a session log just shows she cannot make the initial connection then she should start looking at the firewall blocking PMail.
2. Do a Start | Run Telnet <host name> 25 to see if she can make a connection outside of PMail. If so then the problem is that PMail specifically is being blocked and that looks like a firewall.
3. Check to make sure she is not running some anti-virus/spam software between PMail and the server.
4. Verify that she is using the latest setup for her ISP. Many times the ISP will change to using SSL/TSL or a different port and not inform all of their users. ;-(
