Freezing when downloading graphics

Okay. I've got it set to not download graphics by default, and I had a few email addresses listed as exceptions to the rule so they would show graphics. For now, I've stripped out all of the exceptions so that all messages start with no graphics by default.

The graphic seems to be some sort of tracker graphic. Probably sent via https to prevent an outside entity from modifying it.

Pmail has been freezing for me when downloading graphics. Any idea what could cause that?

Version 4.41

This may mean the server is not serving up graphics.  Try putting the Url in a browser.  If it is not an actual underlined link, you will have to dig through the source html for an IMG tag to find the graphic being downloaded.

But first check your Bearhtml.log to see which graphic it is.  You should see one or more downlad listed as completed.  Send me your log if you want me to check it out, at irelam@telus.net

  • Opening the message in a browser (right click, "open message in web browser") works fine, including graphics.
  • Installed PMAIL beta version in a separate folder, that works.
  • I have no Bearhtml.log.
  • In case it is important: This is a message accessed by IMAP on a Mercury server.
Should I try a reinstall my main copy of PMAIL?

In order to see the IMG filename info, you need to set up a file called Bearhtml.log in your NewMail directory. Use Notepad or something similar to create an empty file.  You also need to add a line to Bearhtml.ini stating:  loglevel=5   in order to get the detail you need.

What version of Bearhtml are you using?

Its the file:  https://portal.frc.org/img/shim.gif which is hanging.  I don't know why they are using Https protocol for a graphics file, but we don't support that type of file.   I will put in some code to reject that protocol when downloading graphics for the next release of Bearhtml

Meantime the only way you are going to see the html stream displayed is to change https to http.  I think it would be better to try and view the message in text mode, by clicking the View button to go to plain mode.
