Strange formatting when I send mail

I hope someone can offer me advice: I've noticed that when I send a message and then read it (if I send myself a copy, for example), the line formatting is frequently off.  The message looks fine when I compose it, but when I read the copy I've sent, I'll have maybe five words on one line, then just one short word on the next line, and another slightly longer line following that.  (These are just examples.  There's no clear pattern, but it looks like I've hit enter in the middle of sentences.)  Any idea what's going on and what I can do about it?

Are you sure that you have not turned on "Wrap long lines" or "Reformat long lines"?
