I tried increasing it to 180 sec and it still conked out far short of full transfer.

I normally use PM and POP3 to access and archive my email.  My mail provider's webmail uses IMAP4 and I have PM connect to that server periodically to make sure that I can keep messages that I see first via Webmail.

I would now like to use IMAP4 more extensively and have been trying to upload copies of a couple of large POP3 (>3000 messages each)  folders to the IMAP server.  I would like to have access to these messages from  my Webmail client.

 I create a folder on the IMAP server, open the POP3 folder I want to transfer, select all messages, use the Copy button to copy them all, select the target IMAP folder in the new window that comes up, and start the transfer

 The transfer is slow but usually proceeds until several hundred messages get copied and then an error dialog pops up saying that the connection has been lost.  The only way to clear this is to shut down PM from the Task Manager and restart it

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to make this smoother, especially if I'm going about it the wrong way.

Sounds like DSL sending speeds which are much lower to recieve speeds combined with ISP timeout. Could you change the SMTP timeout from the defaul to 120 or 180 seconds?

Tools | Internet Mail Options

Select the SMTP server | Edit | General Tab middle of dialog box.
