NOOB here, in desperate need of a tutorial.

Hello, and thank you for any help you can offer me.

Send me a message to techsupp@tstephenson.com with your current mercury.ini file, and the following info

1.   The host name and IP address of the system you are using.  Is this a fixed IP address?

2.   Is there a router involved?  If so the host name and IP address of the router connection and the IP address of the router on the LAN. Is this a fixed IP address?

3.   Is there any firewall?

4.   Is there any anti-virus sorftware?

Hello, and thank you for any help you can offer me.

I am wondering if there is a tutorial around that can help me set up mercury mail?

i have been attempting to setup mercury mail for about 5 days now, i have researched every error i have encountered here in the forumns.

i have read the manual, i now know all the definitions, mx, dns and so on. i just can't seem to put the two together.

 Thank you for your help.

The setup is very dependant on your situation, so there is no "one-size-fits-all" setup instructions.

Could you tell us what you are trying to achieve, your environment and what problems you are having?

Ah, thank you MR. Nut,

all that i am concerned with at this point is sending mail out using MercuryE.

Enviroment: dell 720 dual, broadband, win xp, xampp, godaddy php for mail input(works)

I have read the manual, and believe that i have this end set up, i believe that my problem lies with the mercury and godaddy NS/MX records connection(s), i may not have that part done correctly.

Technically you don't need any DNS records to send mail, however a lot of mail servers will check for these and reject your connection if you don't.

If you have a static IP, you will need to get set up an A record (e.g mail.yourdomain.com) pointing to your IP.

You should also have an MX record pointing to your A record (and also be running MercS on port 25 of your external interface to respond to connections).

If you have no static IP you should use MercC and relay through your ISP's mail server (or another SMTP service like Gmail etc.).
