I'm running Windows 7 Release Candidate. When I upgraded to Pmail 4.51, everything worked perfectly, except for one thing: When I'm in preview mode, the button bar below the toolbar and above the area with the 3 panes is missing. In its place are three vertical separator bars (actually, the left-most bar is a double bar) and a green arrow at the right of that area. If I click on the arrow, a single button appears on the far right side of that area -- the Filter button. If I hover my mouse arrow above the Filter button, the Reply button takes its place. But that's it -- none of the other buttons are ever visible.

If I click on either a folder or a single message, I get the standard single-pane view and the buttons all show up above the pane like they're supposed to. It's only in the preview mode with the 3 panes that the buttons are missing.

And David, in case you browse these forums: I've been using Pmail faithfully since 1993 and it rocks even more now than it did back then. Kudos and a big thank you to you for a GREAT program.

I know some users who have successfully installed and running Pegasus Mail under Windows 7 RC without any problems. Must be something specific to your system, maybe a graphics driver problem of some kind.

I will test with the German Windows 7 RC soon and post my findings.

Sven, after a week or so, the buttons miraculously showed up one morning and have been in plain view for two full days now. While I didn't reinstall Pmail or change any drivers, there's a possibility that a system reboot flushed out something that was causing problems. (I can't say for sure because I don't know enough about that sort of thing.)

I'll post back in a couple of weeks and let you know whether or not the problem resurfaces.

I can now confirm your findings. I have installed Windows 7 RC under VMware and am seeing the same. Interestingly enough, this always only happens after a fresh start of Windows 7 and Pegasus Mail. As soon as I quit Pegasus Mail and restart the program I can see all buttons. Can you confirm this?

I have run into the same problem on Windows 7 RC, and I don't use the preview pane. I have seen the problem happen with the folder view and message reader window toolbars.

I use Windows 7 only occasionally (still mostly on XP SP3 - I tried Vista but gave up...), and haven't noticed if it's only after a fresh run of both, but I do know that it's an intermittent problem which doesn't always happen, but is common enough to be worrisome, especially given the currently uncertain status of Pegasus Mail's future development and the inevitable adoption of Windows 7 sooner or later by many users. All I know is that the buttons disappear, and since Pegasus Mail mostly doesn't have redundant functions in right-click menus, for example, this often leads me to have to close the program and try again. Otherwise, however, Pegasus Mail 4.51 works perfectly under Windows 7.

On very rare occasions, I have seen the buttons disappear also on Windows XP, but this is far less common, and there is a difference: the buttons appear when I hover the mouse cursor over where they should be. This has no effect when using Windows 7. Sorry, but the XP bug is absolutely unpredictable, and I have no idea of how to reproduce this.

My system is an AMD Athlon 64 3800+, 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card, dual-boot with a Windows XP Professional SP3 partition and another one with Windows 7 RC (while PMail was installed separately in each system, the mailbox folder is the same, shared by both installs of PMail and located in a third, data-only partition). All Windows Update patches are applied and kept up-to-date. I also regularly check all hardware drivers for their latest versions. Security software (which might perhaps interfere, though PMail is set as "trusted") is Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on Windows XP, and Avast! Antivirus combined with PC Tools Firewall on Windows 7.

I hope this helps the issue to get fixed in an eventual future 4.52 or 4.6 version.

Sometimes it happens here as well.

To fix it I right-click the toolbar, then text only, then text and icons and it works again.

I have posted what looks like the sme issue with the real Windows 7 (I only read the digest so missed your original post). Haven't seen any responses as yet.

I never fond my posting, must have gone wrong as I cannot find it so here it is.

Under Windows 7 and pmail 4.51 I have found some folders appear with no buttons (I called them icons originally). However I have discovered that if I right click the button area and select then they reappear. Even stranger is that some of the some folders this doesn't work if you choose graphics and text immediately but if you chose graphics or text first and then do it again and choos "graphics and text£ then it works. I also have that some folders will remember and reopen correctly but most reopen with no buttons text or graphics (also the blank buttons that do appear are very large and only 3 blank areas show but they all come back after the right click).

I have been using Pmail for 12 years or more, love it. In Win 7 RTM i get missing buttons most of the time but it can always be fixed with right-click the toolbar, then text only, then text and icons.

Same when i receive Email with attachment, click on attachment, no buttons, but again fixed as above.

Not a show stopper but annoying.

In the final Windows 7 (enterprise version, 32B, several

different graphics drives including the Intel display driver) the Pegasus v.4.51

does not show (or sometimes miraculously does show) the button bar below the

toolbar.

Windows 7 troubleshooting comparability (earlier versions, or

not correct display) and also changing the screen resolution or text items size

do not help.

Each time the missing buttons can be restored (right-click

the toolbar, then text only, then text and icons), but after Pegasus restarting

them become invisible.

Sven, did you test with or without using my PGP or S/MIME extension? If using any please try again after disabling it as I've encountered a somewhat comparable issue when testing a BearHtml replacement which made me figure out that my extension caused it (I'm about to release a fixed version of my extension anyway quite soon). It might help, although I don't think all participants in this thread are using my (PGP or S/MIME) extension(s), or do they?

Michael, I have tested on a fresh Windows 7 RC system using a fresh Pegasus Mail 4.51 (German) installation. No extensions at all (besides the built-in extensions).

[/quote]Yes, the same in Windows 7 Professional. There are no buttons at all. But for any reason sometimes they appear after a restart.

And the button settings are not saved if I change them to Graphics only, Text only and so on.

I've had the same problem -- no buttons, rather whimsically. A right-click ALWAYS brings up a drop-down and "graphics and text" ALWAYS brings up the button row it applies to. "graphics" usually does.

I've upgraded to 4.51, but had the same problem in 4.41.

Here's some system info:

Windows 7 ultimate evaluation copy, 64 bit (nephew repaired computer and that was his choice)

NVidia GEForce 8800 video/graphics board running

NEC Multisync LCD2490WUXi display

(Windows 7/64 didn't like installing Pegasus/32 AT ALL!)

My button settings are preserved, maybe you have a rights problem (do you have full rights in the directory  where your pmail.ini is stored?).

No, the pmail folder has a user/administrator full control

permission, and Pegasus does remember the last size and position of every

folder.

The feeling is that the Pegasus sometimes mixes the order

between the toolbar gray background (which goes forward) and the buttons (stay

backward).

Changing Windows 7 settings (colors, transparency …) do not

help.

I am having the same problem.

When I start Pegasus,  the Folders and New mail windows open.  The Folders pane has icons (sometimes), but the New mail does not.  There is a blank space where the Graphics and text should be.  If I hover or click in the blank area, there is nothing.

Same problem when any folder is opened from the Folders pane.

Work-around: switch to some other format ( Graphics and text, Graphics only, Text only ), then back to my default which is Graphics and text.

This is happening every time I start Pegasus.

New installation of Windows 7, PMail folders copied from another PC (Vista).

I checked rights, file attribs, shortcut compatibility...  still have the same problem.

Display adapter is NVidia GeForce 8500 GT.

I have German Versions of Windows 7 Prof. 32 bit and Pegasus 4.51.  It works fine after coping my old MAIL folder in the new PC System but also the same problem like others:

The buttons in the windows INBOX, OUT, MAIN are not visible (in the windows of the other folders which I created myself before are WITH visible buttons). After clicking TEXT and then TEXT+SYMBOLS they appear for now. It works until I close Pegasus. When I open it the next time the buttons are not displayed again. So I have to click TEXT and then TEXT+SYMBOLS again. Very sad about this, cause I use Pegasus for about 12 years. It would be great if anyone could find a solution.
