Thomas:

I have downloaded PMRestArch from the lexacorp site and will give this a try soon.  Unfortunately, there is a long list of home repairs for the weekend and I'm only 1/2 way through.  I'll report back with my success or failure.

 Appreciate your insights!

Paul

I recently copied old messages from a Pegasus directory used some years ago into my current user directory assuming they would be read by and load into my current user wihen I started Pegasus.  That did not happen and I cannot find an option to tell Pegasus to read the disk.  Any insights?

I ass-u-me that you copied these files into the PMail mail directory when PMail was running and therefore the hierarch.pm is now corrupted.  You need to delete (move) it when PMail is not running and it will be re-built (no trays) on startup.

Thanks for your quick reply.   Yes, the message files were copied into C:\Program Files\PMAIL\MAIL\pblom.  Cannot remember if Pegasus was running or not, but anyway I tried quiting Pegasus, deleting the HIERARCH.PM file and restarting.  No luck.  I'm sure whatever the resolution is will be embarassing simple.

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info and verify this is the proper directory.

2.  Verify that there are NOT copies of the folders in the current directory.  Any folder with the same internal name in the PMM file cannot be seen in the folder listing.

You might want to checkout PMRestArch - Pegasus Mail Restore Mail Folder Archives:
http://www.lexacorp.com.pg

Usage:
PMRestArch SourceDir DestinationDir

Description:
Pegasus Mail cannot display two mail folders with the same internal ID even if they are in separate mailboxes. Mail folders also have to be Read-Write.

This causes problems when trying to view mail folders which have been archived by copying them to backup media.

This utility:

1.  Copies all .PMM and .PMI files in the source directory to
the destination directory and renames them as BAKxxxxx.PMM
    and BAKxxxx.PMI.

2.  Ensures that the resulting file is Read/Write.

3.  Creates a different internal unique ID for each file.

Once you have run this program to restore archived folders to a directory you can attach that directory using the Pegasus Mail 'Add mailbox to list' option and access the archived folders in this new mailbox.
