Date Sent field

Thanks Paul. Guess there's no way to show the date and time received (from the message listing) when the message is opened. Oh well....

I'm in Seattle. Is there a way to have every incoming message show the time as PDT? Some messages show PDT, others show UTC.

Thanks!

Have you got 'Folder/Apply timezone correction' ticked? (It will be in the 'Messages' menu in preview mode). That should convert all incoming times to your local clock.

You also need to have your SMTP time zone set in 'Tools/Options/Advanced settings'. The Auto setting works for me.

Thanks Paul. I'm not sure how to find the messages menu in preview mode. Under the Folder menu, "Apply Timezone Correction" is checked. Under Tools > Options > Advanced, the Auto box is checked for SMTP Time Zone.

If you have a Folder menu, then you are in List mode and you don't have to worry about Preview mode.

If you are still getting strange times, there may be something wrong with those incoming messages. Can you post the Date: line from one of them?

How does that appear in the folder listing?

Here's another one - Date sent: Mon, 27 Jul 2009 16:06:50 GMT (sent from New York, I'm in Seattle)

The date correction only takes place in the list of messages in the folder. The actual message header is not changed.

Is there no 'Date:' header in the message?

Here's a typical sequence (from Raw View) - starts out showing PDT, then switches to UTC by the time I receive it.

These headers are written to the mail by each server along the route according to their settings.

Other way round. The first Date: header (inserted by sending client) is at the bottom, more recent Received: headers (inserted by mail servers on route) get added to the top of the mail.

The Date: header is the "Sent Date" that PegasusMail displays (with the option of converting it to your TZ in the display)

How do I change Display to convert to my TZ, so that when I click on a message, the Date Sent field shows PDT instead of UTC or GMT?

There is no "Date sent" field. The Date: field is hard coded into the message, it will always display the date/time that was generated by the sending email system. It might be created by the email client or the SMTP host so it can be either the time the email client generated the message to be sent to the server or the time the SMTP host received the message from the client.

Ok, now I'm really confused. :) Example:

Date/Time column in message listing: 31 July 09, 22:33

When I open the message - Date sent: Sat, 1 Aug 2009 05:33:09 +0000 (UTC)

That's the "Date Sent" field I'm referring to, that I'd like to see converted to PDT

OK, I understand. That date field is shown adjusted in your listing as PDT (31 July 09, 22:33) but in the message window (as Date Sent:) or in raw view (as Date:) it will always be the date/time put on by the sender - in this case 1 Aug 09 05:33 UTC. There is no way that the date in the message reader can be displayed in another TZ in PMail as it preserves all the original details as received.
