Mailbox moving woes

I'm sorry I didn't read this before you spent so much time figuring it out. However, if you ever need to move a mailbox again, you might want to try this:

  1. Go to Tools, Options, General settings, Mailbox location.
  2. In the Path: box, type the path to the new mailbox location. In your case: S:\PersonalData\MAIL\Admin
  3. Make sure you check Move mailbox contents to new location.
This worked for me, but I changed the mailbox location to a directory on partition D: on my hard drive rather than to a directory on a networked drive. If I'm correct, this shouldn't make a difference, though.

 Cheers,

Steffan

I work in an environment that does not use Pegasus Mail, but we do have one user who does.  I'm trying to move their mailbox off their hard drive to a network drive (as it gets backed up), but I can't get it to work.

I have read everything I can find about shifting mailbox directories, and feel like I'm doing everything I should to the letter.  I could be missing the obvious, but I can't get it to work.  I hope someone out there can help me.

They are running Pegasus Mail 4.41 in standalone mode on a Windows XP Pro machine in an Active Directory environment.  I want to move their Mailbox to their home drive.  This is what I have done:

  1. Closed Pegasus Mail
  2. Moved c:\PMAIL\MAIL to x:\PersonalData\MAIL
  3. Ran pconfig.exe in the c:\PMAIL directory
  4. Changed the home mailbox from C:\PMAIL\MAIL\~n to x:\PersonalData\MAIL\~n
  5. Changed the new mailbox from C:\PMAIL\MAIL\~n to x:\PersonalData\MAIL\~n
  6. Ran Pegasus Mail.

I then get a prompt for a username.  If I enter 'Admin' I get an error that 'The user you are attempting to 'become' (admin) does not exist on this system.'

I tried again, repeating steps 1-5 above.  I then edited the pmail.ini file in the x:\PersonalData\MAIL\ADMIN folder (there are other pmail.ini files):

[Pegasus Mail for Windows - Run Info]
...
Working home mailbox location    = S:\PersonalData\MAIL\Admin
New mailbox location             = S:\PersonalData\MAIL\Admin

I run Pegasus Mail and get the same error.

I would really appreciate any suggestions or help.

Okay, after spending hours on this, I have worked it out.  There were two problems.

 1. There were two instances of pconfig.exe - one in c:\pmail and one in c:\pmail\programs.  I ran and changed the details in both.

2. I was opening PMail using an icon on the user's desktop.  This was using the -roam switch.  So, instead of that I used 'Pegasus Mail as Admin' under the Start menu.

 It's all working okay now.
