Secondary address problem

The log is:-

  • Connection established to 62.254.26.202
    >> 0053 +OK Virgin Media POP3 server ready [ e4c558782BY ].
  • << 0019 USER bh003d9032_2
    >> 0005 +OK
    << 0015 PASS XXXXXXXX
    >> 0056 -ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

    The primary and secondary servers are the same Virgin Mail 

    Looks like the username and/or password is bad or this POP3 server does not really support your POP3 account.

    I can send and receive emails OK with my primary address but can only send emails with my secondary address. I have endlessly tried to correct the fault by going to Tools/Internet Options and checking address, Pop Server, Smtp Server and Dial up connection but can't find an error. Also tried the Wizard with different combinations for Mailbox username and Password but to no avail. Could someone please suggest what the problem is and how to correct it. I do get the error message saying there is a host problem with either my username or password but both seem to be correct.

    How about providing us with a session log of the error with the problem server.  If you are using v4.51 I'd recommend turning off the CRAM-MD5 ESMTP authentication since many servers advertise it's availability and then do not support the username and password decryption.

    Hello Marcel,

    A little more information would be helpful. For starters, what are your primary and secondary providers? I'm asking this in relation to a relay error message I received once, but that pertained to sending mail rather than receiving mail.

    Well, it does look like either your user name or password is incorrect. You could try logging in via your provider's web mail page (https://webmail.virgin.net/mail) to see if your user name and/or password are correct.
