4.51/ Win 7/64 "can't initialize printer" on send

You should set your default printer to one that is available, or maybe a PDF printer or Generic File printer (not sure what you have available in Win7)

OK, my computer disintegrated and my nephew fixed it after the local store finished it off (bad system drive, as it turned out). We vacillated around about the OS for a bit; XP was a pain with the fancy system, hated Vista, so he installed an evaluation copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit (build 7100). (He thought it would be better for some of the things I do, video/audio editing mainly I think; I'm not so convinced of that so far)

I installed Pegasus 4.41 on the brand new perfectly blank drive, then upgraded to 4.51. Win 7 complained bitterly about installing 4.51. (There had been an upgrade between installing 4.41 and 4.51; don't remember all the hassle with 4.41, doesn't mean there wasn't though)

All of a sudden -- after installing a number of programs (Adobe video, audio, graphics & Acrobat pro, tried to get ghostscript going so Thumbs Plus can read pdfs but it doesn't seem to install, have uninstalled it (but how completely...) -- I started getting this weird message when I go to send a file. Of course, I just sent a test file and didn't get the messages so you're getting the gist, perhaps not the exact words in the little windows that pop up.

First, a window pops up and says "can't initialize printer." I hit "OK" and another one pops up that says something like "can't find font," and it takes a large number of clicks on the OK button to deal with this one. Meanwhile, the status line is stalled at opening the SMTP; when I've clicked on enough OKs the "can't find font" window disappears and the message is sent. If there are two messages in the queue I have to do this with each one and I'm not sure it isn't cumulative -- I've had to do the whole procedure from the "can't initialize printer" screen twice when there's only one message to send, if I send from the queue manager one at a time.

The thought "cross-linked" occurs to me but what do I know. My brain gave out sometime after DOS. I haven't yet tried reinstalling 4.51, thought I'd apply for advice here first.

TIA for any suggestions! Love Pegasus -- it's just gotta be able to work with Win 7. Everything else does so far--

I can't be certain,

however I think your problem is that it is an evaluation copy of Win7 64bit.

i have for test a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit  a  genuine release copy

All programmes that you mention run just fine including v4.51 pegasus

Evaluation copy glitch... That's a nice thought to hold! Thanks a lot.

Except... 4.41 and 4.51 worked perfectly until I started installing software. But maybe the Real Win 7 will have figured out how to deal with whatever it is.

So far iTunes 32 bit is the only program that hasn't run perfectly (except for the Pegasus glitch which is heaven knows what). Win 7 or Apple want me to download the 64 bit iTunes but that's not an option at 2 kbps -- have to find someplace my netbook will speak to. I'm really happy with Win 7. So far.

I don't suppose the PTB relented and gave us back the launch bar?
