Pegasus does not close down

Michael: Right you are, but the speed for closing down has never bothered me (I think I've always given it some time before hibernating). Only why the executable get stuck...

Thomas: I see, of course thats another way to get rid of the deleted mails. I try not to close PM at all, then...

Thanx for quick answers... [:)]

Hi

(Guess I first posted this in the wrong forum "Pegasus Mail suggestions", this seems better...)

For the time being I'm a satisfied user of Pegasus Mail 4.51, thanx to everyone involved in helping the project! Smile

Only

a minor thing disturbs:  I often use Win XP's hibernating function (not

waiting too long at the next pc start!) closing Pegasus before

hibernating. When starting the pc next and starting Pegasus, it turns

out that Pegasus is running twice!  (winpm-32.exe registered twice in

the Processes, and a VERY slow respons when I write a letter in the

address field, probably both processes want to "own" the address book)

How come that Pegasus does not close down?  How to avoid?

Many regards,

Henrik

How do you close Pegasus? By clicking the cross in the top right-hand corner, pressing Alt+F4 or going to File and clicking Exit? I've read somewhere in these forums that the last-mentioned method is the most effective, but that was in relation to saving settings.

Cheers!
Steffan

Thank you for the answers! [:)]

Steffan:

I always close (all programs) by using alt+F4 (quickest).  I guess it MUST correspond to File > Exit...?

Martin (I answer here):

I understand what you mean.  But I dont use extensions of any kind (I guess), so it should not take THAT long?

I suspect winpm-32.exe not to close as it should for some other reason -- unknown to me...

That makes two of us but why not try closing it the way I suggested just to see if the problem persists?

Cheers!

Of course, you're right! [:)]

Well, I dont know.

It only happens very sporadical so it's hard to say.

And I just try to remember closing via File > Exit... [:)]

Just two notes: Why do you try closing it at all before hibernation? You don't need to: Its first attempt to download new mail afterwards (if you've configured it to automatically check for it) may fail after waking up depending on how you connect to the Internet, but it'll work properly once the connection has been reestablished. And if going into hibernation after closing down Pegasus Mail you may just have to wait a bit longer until it has finished its maintenance work ...

Good question. Why do I close before hibernation?

I guess its because the error I get first time when I wake it up, but you are right, after that it works fine.

And with many mails in the inbox I avoid waiting for these to load if I do not hibernate.

So perhaps that's the way...

Still its a bit strange with this NOT closing the executable, but never mind. [:)]

Enjoy the weekend!

Reply 2:

ONE reason to close down and open again may be to empty my "deleted messages" folder.

(Probably it doesnt do any harm to keep or accumulate deleted mails but I like to "clear up" once in a while...)

Which may be exactly the reason why Pegasus Mail doesn't shutdown fast enough ...

Just delete the deleted messages folder and it will be re-created when you delete the next message.
