URGENT: New Mail folder suddenly empty - what I do?

The files were restored only from a backup. There are a couple of servers and neither had any mails left in the inbox.

The files were restored only from a backup. There are a couple of servers and neither had any mails left in the inbox.

Was just checking the mail in another of my folders and went back to my new mail folder. Empty. All mails gone. Restarted Pegasus. Still empty.

What do I do to restore them? I have a backup that is probably only a few hours old. If it requires restoring a file, which one would it be?

There were only about 60 or so messages in it.

Cheers!

Ellie

The messages in the NEW MAIL folder are stored as individual text files with *.cnm extension.

Check with Windows explorer if these files really are gone or if Pmail is just not showing them for some reason.

To restore from your backup, just copy all the *.cnm files back to your mail directory. (and then look for what might haved removed them [:)])

Thanks, have done as you suggested.

For some reason this has put lots of apparently unread (previously read and deleted) mails into their filter folders, so I will have to go and clean things up. But at least my mails are in place, at least the ones before the 4 am backup.

As to what caused it, I have no idea even what could. There is another user mailbox in the same directory and his are all just fine.

Cheers!

Does anyone have any idea as to why a backup made this morning would include (in the cnm files) hundreds of mails that I had deleted days ago?

I had about 60 mails and on restoring the mails I had over 400 in the mailbox. Does delete (ctrl delete at that) not delete the cnm files?

My only guess is that you are using IMAP4 and the files had not been purged from the server.
