Spamhalter install...

Dilberts,

I did try the IMAP route, and that did not work for me either.  After thinking about it will any messages processed with IMAP even be checked with Spamwall as they do not go through the normal Mercury Core processor?

Also, the only way I could get this to work for all my users is to create the same IMAP YESSPAM and NOSPAM account in all their outlook accounts.

 I believe my problem is my install somehow.  I can configure all the spamhalter settings in Mercury, but when Ilook at the headers in my messages, I'm not seeing the X-SPAMWALL lines.

All my setup (daemon.ini and spamhalter.ini) seems to be fine.

I'll post another thread on this.

Thanks,

MP

Hi,

I must be having a dumb moment since it's late Friday.

Ran spamhalter install on my Mercury install.  SH install creates a SPAMHALTER directory in the Mercury directory and puts all it files there.

When I re-run Mercury, I get no spamhalter in the menu, and quit frankly, I'm not so sure spamhalter is even active. How do I know if SH is running or not?

I have the Word DB's etc, am I missing somthing?

Thanks,

Mark

There was a dialog displayed that said about the changes to the daemon.ini file.  If you haven't allowed the change (or done it manually) then Spamhalter won't appear on the config menu.

Here's my daemon.ini:

[Global Daemons]
GrayWall=C:\MERCURY\graywall.dll
ClamWall=C:\MERCURY\ClamWall.dll;ClamWall
SpamHalter=C:\MERCURY\spamhalter.dll;spamhalter

[Daemons]
Status=c:\mercury\status.dll
RcptEvent=c:\mercury\rcptevt.dll

[Daemon_Config]
GrayWall=C:\MERCURY\graywall.dll
ClamWall=C:\MERCURY\ClamWall.dll;ClamWall
SpamHalter=C:\MERCURY\spamhalter.dll;spamhalter
Status=c:\mercury\status.dll

Once you can get to the configuration, you have to open it and check the box 'Spam filtering is enabled' on the General tab to enable it.

Paul,

Thanks for the tip.  I did see that during install, but I'm not sure how I responded.

My Daemon has similar paths, I'll play with them to see if I can get it to work.

These paths assume that the spamhalter.dll is in the root Mercury directory.  But the spamhalter install puts ALL files into \Mercury\spamhalter directory.

I don't believe that the install would let me choose the Root drive, it forced me to select an existing driectory, so I chose Mercury.  Hence all files went to \Mercury\spamhalter.

Ate the smalhalter.dll and ini (an other files) supposed to be in the Root Mercury directory?

 I did change my Daemon.in to a UNC path and it did show in the GUI.

Thanks much,

Mark

Paul,

Well, I am trying to test Spamhalter, no luck.  I do not see any x-spamhalter hearders in my messages.

I turned it on, my settings look good.

Possible problem, OUTLOOK.

It appears that spamhalter is not compatibale with Outlook 2003 client.  Outlook can only send an un-edited forward (called a redirect), using a Rule, but only IF YOU ARE USING EXCHANGE SERVER!

Why I ALWAYS have some kind of road block, is beyond me!

So, does anyone know if its possible to use spamhalter with outlook in "some other way"?

Thanks much,

Mark

If there are no Spamhalter headings in your incoming messages then it probably isn't configured properly.

The install directory won't be a problem so long as you put the correct paths in the daemon.ini file.

I don't use Outlook 2003, and can't advise on how you send corrections to Spamhalter, but have you tried to forward them normally?

Hello,

Is there anyway to get spamhalter to work using Outlook mail client?  Outlook always edits the messages that you forward to your spam/nospam accounts or you must have Exchange server to do it with a REDIRECT rule?

Thanks,

 MP

It will "work" by forwarding to the spam account from Outlook, although as stated the Outlook headers affect the tokenising of the message attributes.

You could add the spam (and nospam) account as an IMAP folder and drag & drop the messages for learning.

Dilberts,

So how does the Outlook header / tokenising effect the filtering?  Will it flag the "forwarder" as a spam source?

I may try the IMAP deal with the spam and nospam accounts in my Outlook.  However, how do I get "other users" spam there?  They would have to forward the spam to me, then I would drag and drop into the correct folder.  I would think it would see then as the "spamers" due to their address in the headers.

No?

Thanks much,

Mark
