I think there is something wrong with my server certificate.

I have now checked out MercuryX and I can send/receive mail without restarting the server everytime.

I'm also surprised that I'm the only one with that weird connection control window. Perhaps it will display correctly if I do a reinstall of Mercury but it works well for now, so I would rather just wait for Mercury V4.73 instead if bothering with the hassle of reinstallation.

Anyway, thanks for the help, everyone!

Hello,

I'm trying to configure my Gmail account to send e-mails through my Mercury server and get rid of that pesky "on behalf of" message but it's not working for some reason. I know that Gmail requires you to have an SSL certificate in order to connect to your mail server so I have created a server certificate and saved it as a "txt" file, and then I instructed both MercuryS and MercuryP to use that certificate. However, when  I try to connect from Gmail to my SMTP server I always get this error message which makes me think that there is something wrong with the certificate which I have made earlier.

"We are having trouble authenticating with your other mail service.

Please try changing your SSL setting.

If you continue to experience difficulties, please contact your

other email provider for further instructions."

I tried changing the extension of my certificate to "p12" and "pfx" but that didn't work neither. I also checked the properties of the certificate and the common name matches the name of my mail server, so I'm really stumped about this.

Here is what my MercuryS log file says:

Try not using any extension at all. That's what I found worked when getting my mobile phone to accept a Mercury certificate.

I also found it useful to remove the old certificate from the phone before trying to send it a new one (with a new filename). Because Mercury certificates are self signed, there can be issues getting them accepted; my phone asks the first time it see such such a certficate, and then uses that answer subsequently - and so if the certificate fails first time, it fails every time, even if it gets changed.

I use c:\mercury\cert.txt as the certificate.

And it appear to work here.  You should be using Mercury/32 ESMTP AUTH here and you should also enter the ESMTP AUTH username and password at the GMail account.

GMail made a good connection and quit.

GMail did not clear the STARTTLS connection before quitting and breaking the connection but this is benign.

What can I say, the connection was made and verified by GMail.  Here's my session log from a good connection with GMail using my server.  The ESMTP AUTH data has been munged.

Hi,

I'm afraid that changing the certificate's extension made no difference whatsoever, so in the end I just picked "txt" as an extension.

Thomas, I used ESMTP AUTH as you instructed and it finally worked! what I did was go to MercuryS SMTP Server→Connection Control and I checked " Authenticated SMTP Connections May Relay Mail". The only problem is that I could not see the lower part of the window! I don't know if this is just a bug on my windows XP machine or not but this is how it looked like.

I'm using Mercury/32 V4.72 by the way. Anyway I took a leap of faith and typed something in the lower field and then I clicked the button on the right which made a window popup that prompted me to enter my username and password separated by a space. After that I managed to connect to my server through Gmail.

There's one other probable bug that I noticed. Every time I start Mercury I have to enter offline mode and then leave offline mode or else the SMTP server will not be responsive when I receive or try to send mail. Is this normal?

It's not normal, and has been raised as a bug; I've seen something to the effect it will be fixed in 4.73. It only happens if you load MercuryX - so your options for now are to do without the scheduler, or remember to cycle through offline mode every time you restart

There is something drastically wrong here, you have a lot more data on this screen.

You can also edit the mercury.ini file and the [MercuryS] section to do this.
