System hangs up while loading new mail folder

Thanks, Aderoy.  I could not open Pegasus as you suggested but comments from you and Thomas helped me locate the new mail messages and identify the culprit that caused the problem.  My Pegasus is up and running again!  Thanks you both very much!!

I have been using PM 4.5 with MS Windows XP for several months.  One week ago, my system locked up as Pegasus indicated it was opening the New Mail folder.  I have re-loaded Pegasus programs and restored settings but nothing has helped.   If anyone has a suggestion on how to fix this problem, please share.

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probaby going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.    Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...

2.    Select and edit the control definition

3.    Select the "Message tests" tab.

4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes in each message"

Thanks for your response, Thomas.  I had received some large attachments when this problem originated.  But please explain how to locate the new mail directory so that I can remove the *.CNM files as you suggest.   I can get to the Mail and Programs folders in the Pmail file via My Computer but am too much of a novice user to identify the new mail folder.

Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info to determine your mail directory.  Exit Pegasus mail. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the directory.

ie: for my machine (WinXP SP3) the mailstore is located here:

c:\Documents and Settings\aderoy\Application\Pegasus\Admin
