Hi Steffan,

Thanks for your concern.

You are right that it has nothing to do with that thread except ... in a way it does. You see I started my server machine (on which Pegasus mail program and mailboxes reside) off the network so that Mercury would not start downloading the mails before I had recopied the new mailbox files as explained) over to the server from the USB key. I then started up Pegasus to see if it had worked correctly. I then got this error message. It appears that this computer has to be on the network for the installation to wok as the path is a network path.

As soon as I put this computer back on the network everything worked perfectly, including the cleaned up mailbox.

I did not touch the Pegasus mail program directory at all. The mailboxes reside on a different drive on the machine and the only files I copied from the key were in the mailbox.

Cheers!

Ellie

Hello,(also asking the mail Pegasus list as I am getting pretty desperate now)

I have been writing regarding a problem which I thought was related to having copied and pasted files from a USB key installation. I thought that I should start a new thread as the problem has taken a different turn:

When I attempt to open any of the three mailboxes that are on the installation, I get the message that "the User you are attempting to become (User name) does not exist on this system." This is the same for all three users.

The mailboxes are clearly there.

What does seem to be missing is the pconfig.exe. I do not find it in the same folder as the winpm32.exe file. Would it be there although there are multiple users and the mailboxes are situated elsewhere?

In any case I have a copy of the pconfig.exe from a previous backup of the program files (back in July). When I tried to just paste it into the directory, nothing changed.

How can I restore Pegasus to working with the mailboxes?

Totally baffled now.

Ellie

Edit: I found that the installation would not see the mailboxes as long as the computer on which they reside was not connected to the network. Even running it on the actual machine where it was all installed would not see the mailboxes. Must have been to do with a network path which was not recognised as long as there was no network connection.

I don't know which files you copied and pasted (and hope this has nothing to do with the "Want to clean out my mails thread") but caution is in order when it comes to copying and pasting files. Seems to me like you've overwritten your PMAIL.USR file (I just tested this by temporarily removing this file and restarting Pegasus, which yielded the same error message). My installation has two users (lu and steffan) and the contents of the PMAIL.USR file looks like this:

A;lu;lu
A;steffan;steffan

The file is located in c:\pmail\mail in my installation. There are also two subdirectories in that directory, lu and steffan.

Alternatively, you may have overwritten the pmail.ini files in all three user directories, but that seems unlikely to me. Hope this helps.

Cheers!
Steffan

When on the road working from the USB-Key, do you use -ROAM?

Are the files on the key 1:1 from the source? Or are they edited on the road?

Take a look at PMAIL.CFG (a pain to edit, better by Pegasus Mail itself via "moving mailbox" from the preferences) and PMAIL.INI (easy to edit, every users has its own copy) to check if the path to the mailbox is proper.

Sounds like the mailboxes are remembered by Pegasus Mail as an network-path, not a local path.
