Newly downloaded mail disappears

Steffan, you are a Godsend!!  Found the files, but now how do I get them to go into the *.pmm folder?  Also, do you know what to do so that future notes will find their way automatically to the *.pmm folder as in the past?

Yes, he is good, isn't he?  :)

You're just jealous :-)

An interesting problem is occuring with my Pegasus Mail.  I download my mail, it shows a certain number of items being downloaded from the server, but the mail does not appear in my inbox.  In fact, it is nowhere to be found.  Until realizing the problem, mail was automatically cleared from my host.  I stopped that, but I now lost some 100 e-mails.  Anybody ever had such a problem?  If so, any clue where the mail went?

No idea what happened to your mail, but if you are using MercuryD to pop messages be sure to set either a local user or a default user, otherwise messages may be discarded.

From the help
Default user  When distributing mail from a domain mailbox, MercuryD may encounter messages for whom it can find no local recipient; this will commonly happen if one of your users subscribes to a mailing list, since mailing lists usually do not indicate the actual recipient anywhere in the message headers. In cases such as this, MercuryD can be told to deliver the message to a specific, or default user. If you leave this field blank, MercuryD will discard any messages for which it can find no local delivery addresses. This field is only meaningful when you have told MercuryD to distribute mail (by leaving the Local user field blank).
This problem has arisen all of a sudden, out of the blue? You haven't changed any settings regarding mailbox location and such recently? Have you set the correct default mail folder in Tools | Options | General Settings | Basic settings? Just a few shots in the dark.

Cheers!
Steffan

Ddin't change the settings, checked to be sure that the folder you mentioned is indeed <DEFAULT>....

That's not what I meant, I was talking about the name of the incoming mail folder in the above-mentioned settings. Apart from that, though, have you tried searching your computer for *.cnm files? These are the separate, new mails before they get integrated in the folder file (*.pmm file, which you could also search for and open with a text editor to verify its contents).

Cheers!

If you search by date range, does the search return any email?

Wondering if there is a filter etc that is moving to another folder.

Normally you would move individual new mail messages (.cnm files) into folders (.pmm files) manually or via filters.

Does the location you found the cnm files also contain the pmm/pmi folder files?  Perhaps if you tell us what you usually do with these 'notes' it may help us understand.

Manually, Paul? Pegasus does that automatically (or indeed via filters, which I use with great pleasure) on closing the new mail folder, doesn't it?

Cheers!
Steffan

Edit: Wait, I see what you mean. I sometimes move messages manually, too, but most of the time I leave these operations to Pegasus using a couple of filter rule sets.

Yep,

Manually = drag-and-drop, 'move' button, 'm' key  (most only use one of these possibilities)

Auto = filtering, closing new mail folder etc.

The problem seems to be, that the messages are on the harddisk (*.cnm), but not showing up in any folder.

The new-mail-folder can't be checked or re-indexed as any "normal" folder.

How to force Pegasus Mail to remember these *.cnm-files?

They should show up in the new mail folder. And why would you want to force Pegasus to remember them? Normally, new mails appear in the form of *.cnm files. Once they are marked read, they are integrated into the mail folder the user has specified (a pmm file).

Yes, he is good, isn't he?  :)

In order to help diagnose the issue, it would be helpful if you told us exactly where on your hard drive these 'missing' CNM files were found. They should normally live in your user account folder under the Pmail folder. Any CNM file stored there will appear automatically in your New Mail Folder (if things are working properly).
