Hi everybody!

So here's the deal: We set up a Mercury Server in school. We had like 5 groups and each group was in their own little subnet. we could send emails to the users of our own subnet. it was pretty easy so far.

however: what we couldn't figure out was if it is possible to send emails to other subnets????

hope you guys can help us??!

cheers

More info required.  How are you setup?  What OS?  How are you sending the mail?  What are the subnets?

well, we installed mercury through xampp on windows xp (mostly) and win 7 and we were sending emails through thunderbird.

the subnet was 255.255.0.0.

i have to correct myself here: we were all in this one subnet! but there were several mercury servers running. people could only exchange emails if they were connected to the same server.

they could not send emails to clients connected to another mercury server.

Ok, this is normal.  In order of you to send to these other Mercury/32 servers you would use MercuryE to send to the registered user@domain.com of the other Mercury/32 servers.  However with XAMPP I'm quite sure that they are all using the same domain name "Localhost".

You will need to change this and have each system use their own domain name.  This should be entered into both the Configuration | Mercury core "Internet name for this system" and Configuration | Mercury Core | Domains "Internet name".

Since these are not real domain names you need to use something else to get the mail to the other systems.  You could use the daemon MercFWD for this.

You use a domain setup like this when using this daemon:

daemon:c:\mercury\mercfwd.dll;[192.168.1.3]: groupone.com

and all mail sent to user@groupone.com would be sent to the Mercury server running on 192.168.1.3 and of course that Mercury system must have the domain name of groupone.com as it's local domain.

This daemon requires the use of MercuryE for sending, if you use MercuryC then you should look at using domain accounts and WSMTPEx to forward the mail from the domain account to the proper server.
