Backing up a Pegasus Mail installation for re-install

I'm glad it sorted it for you, Ernest.

As far as backups go, I'm pretty sure you would follow the standard procedure I mentioned when we first discussed this. That is, just back up the entire Pmail folder, using a method of synchronize with synching of file deletions also. I keep 2 archived versions of changed or deleted files. Just in case. I have had on the (very) odd occasion to revert to a version more than 1 day before.

If others will chime in if they feel that there is a better way, that would be great, too.

Writing on behalf of a friend:

He has Pmail installed with a few glitches appearing and feels a reinstall would be helpful at this point.

I have suggested that he backs up the complete Pmail folder daily, which he has been doing.

What would be his procedure for restoring this backup?

He is running Pmail in single user, what I would call default standard mode on his C drive.

Cheers!

You're not telling us what glitches. Normally, I would make a complete backup, uninstall Pegasus but leave the mail and address folders (or put them back) in place, and then perform a new install. However, if the mail or address folders are the culprits, then this might not be the best way to go :-)

Cheers!

Ah, glitches.

I was hoping he might chime in with them, but guess he has not found this forum yet.

[*-)]

For example:

When he forwards an email, in the options window he cannot bring up the addressing options (little book). Nothing happens.

When he selects multiple mails to delete, they do not delete all at once, but each one brings up the 'are you sure..?' dialogue.

In this case, what is to be done for the best?

Then I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling Pmail as I suggested. I.e. performing as clean an install as possible while preserving the mail and address folders.

Cheers!

Thank you Steffan,

So, to a novice (as I expect he will check this thread out before doing the backup and reinstall) what would be the files he would back up? And when he performs a clean install (uninstall and reinstall, I suppose) will he ask it to create a user? Then what does he do at that point?

I impressed on him when he started with Pegasus mail just how easy backups and restores are with this program. This is his first attempt. I think he might still be running the beta version, come to think of it.

Many thanks,

Ellie

Updated from beta to 4.51. Problems solved.

It is still unclear to me how I backup. Do I back up the complete Pegasus folder?
