Delivery failure notices (or lack of sending confirmation)

The rejecting server should report it in the reply.

You can at least tell which domain it was for, by the servername(s) in the headers.

Hi all,

I love my Pegasus mail client to bits. Only one thing I missed from the beginning, which is some sort of send confirmation. I was told Pegasus does not need it, when there is no error message I can take the sending as has worked.

Right now I have the following problem. Sending out my christmas wishes, I received following error message:

In this error message was every single email noted I sent this mail to, but I have received at least 4 replies to my message, so not all of them can have failed? How do I know from this message who received my christmas greetings and who did not?

Thanks and merry Christmas

Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following
reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail
relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:

550 sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.7.17)

(** in here were about 40 email addresses, I can display them here if needed to reply my question, but I rather would not to avoid spam?)

I really think I need to see that list of e-mail addresses that were in the message.  I suspect that some of the items were invalid. You can send these to the e-mail address below instead of posting here.

Surely if you only got one of those error messages, it means that only one of the addresses you were trying to send to was invalid? Well, only one of the addresses hosted on servers that are actually configured to send such a message. Others, hosted on servers which do not report invalid addresses might be wrong but you'd never know.

Would that assumption be correct, Thomas?

Thanks guys,

Sharkfin's assumption would be a satisfactory reply, also since meanwhile I got even more replies. My main worry was that my mail was not sent at all. However since only one failure notice was returned, how can I see which email it was that failed? Because now someone did not get my christmas greetings and I don't know who. On other occasions this may be essential to know.

Thanks again,

I mail the full list to Thomas' email.
