I was wondering if there was any news on developments in Pegasus mail as outlined by David last fall, which was his last blog entry?

Things seem to have come to a halt, at least from the communication point of view.

I think that a note from time to time updating those of us who are keenly interested (the 1000 or close to it) would be a great thing.

David is hard at work right now on getting out a fix for Win7.  This is a bit hung up right now with the problem of making WinPMail the default mailers but it's expected out this weekend.  This was NOT a trivial fix!  It required him to go from the 2003 to the 2008 version of the Visual C development environment (2003 will not install on Win7) among other things

He is also working on a new data storage system for Pegasus mail and Mercury.

FWIW, I personally prefer him to be working on the code than spending time doing blogs. ;-)

I agree with not wanting him to spend much time doing blogs. But the few sentences you just put in (above) would have taken 5 minutes or less. Just keeps people knowing that work is going on and we feel involved.

Personally I don't mind if it's not David giving that short update, but it's good to have it somehow.

Never saw that, but yes, that is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about. Great to hear news and I have now subscribed to the feed so will keep up to date.

500 of the 800 paid, eh? I'm sure the 800 meant to do it. How to remind and encourage? It has been a difficult year for many of course, with the financial woes. I believe I heard that even what is considered to be industry essential giants like Adobe are not getting the updates purchased that they usually get.

The time must be coming up soon again, isn't it? Can't recall exactly when it was.

Agreed, great to hear news about development and little details about what's going on, on that front. I noticed there was a "sneak preview" of upcoming v5's new interface on Phons van Oploo's site. It may not be the final look, but it's certainly interesting to get this kind of information and could encourage people to show their support.

The page http://www.pegasusmail.nl/ translates very well using Google translate.

'very well' in the sense that one is able to infer the gist of the text from what is basically Denglish, a literal translation of the Dutch source text without regard for either context or word order conventions in the target language. Where it should have said something like 'In 2010, Pegasus Mail version 4.52 will appear', Google produces the translation 'In 2010 visiting Pegasus Mail version 4.52'. Being a professional translator, I don't mind that much though. As long as the quality of machine translations doesn't get any better than this, I do not yet have to worry about losing my job :-)

Hey, it's good enough that you can follow what is being said.  ;-)  Try doing this with a Google translation of the Chinese travel documents I'm getting from Taiwan. A literal translation really is difficult to comprehend.   ;-(
