Reply windows come up minimized (4.51) (XP Pro)
I tried just about everything - tried to edit the pmail.ini and other posted suggestion, and then just for the heck of it I STRETCHED the miminzed icon to the size I wanted and now all is fine.

Hope this helps anyone else with this "problem".
More suggestions about solving such issues ...

When I select some text and hit "reply", the new window comes up minimized at the bottom of the screen.  I can resize it, but this is obviously a problem.  I'm going to download and install 4.52 in the hopes it fixes this, but just wanted to contribute this.

Okay, further investigation: I installed 4.52.  No change in the behavior of this problem.  I've also noticed that if I select to create a new outbound message, the window comes up minimized.

I cleared the checkbox that says "Always save the last window size and position", thinking this would change things.  Now I see that Pegasus DOES remember these settings....occasionally.  It seems erratic.  I can create a new message (or reply) and when it comes up minimized, I can resize it.  The next one will be that size.  For a while.  Later, if I bring up a reply or a new message, it's minimized again.

 Any suggestions here?

Perhaps you could experiment a little with toggling the 'Save the Pegasus Mail desktop state between sessions' setting (Tools | Options | Basic settings). I wonder what your setting is, in fact. If this still doesn't help, I expect you will be able to sort it using Thomas R. Stephenson's advice in: http://community.pmail.com/forums/post/13765.aspx

Cheers,
Steffan

It sounds as if the default window size for the message editor might somehow be incorrectly saved.

Close Pegasus and use Windows Explorer to go into your Pmail directory. Find the Pmail.ini file in your mailbox and open it using Notepad.

Look for the following options and note the values for them:

'Editor window default width and depth'

Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.  Answering the last, first:

Editor window default width and depth     = 593 390

Also below that I find:

Reader window default width and depth     = 0 0

I noodled around with the previous reply's suggestions, clearing the checkbox for Pegasus saving windows states between sessions.  All that does is make my Folder window go away if I close and reopen the app.  I also played around with the Message Reader option: "Always save the last window size and position used".  This appears to be nonfunctional for me....whether I check or clear it, the next window I open is always the same size and location the last one was.  I believe the activity I'm doing which is causing this is as follows:  when I send an email, the SMTP process can take several seconds, sometimes longer here at work.  Since I want to get busy reading the next email in the window, I minimize the message which is outbound and then open the next one.  Pegasus then minimizes the next window I open (whether it's a Reply or a New Message) because I minimized that last outbound.

One would think that clearing the "Always save the last window size and position used" option would prevent this, but it isn't doing so.  I've used Pegasus for more than a decade, and always did the silly minimizing outbounds thing.  Never a problem before 4.51.

As a postscript, I also tried Steffan's suggestion to use Stephenson's technique.  This did not change the behavior.

Confirmed that when I minimise a new message window, then close Pegasus (discarding the new message on the way), I see the same problem as you.

Do you use Pegasus in maximised mode? By that I mean that all windows that open within Pegasus (new message, filter rules, address book, etc) actually fill the whole of the Pegasus master window. If you can move away from that, or use the window bar in Pegasus to change window rather than minimise the outgoing message, you'd be able to work around this problem.

I don't know whether it's strictly a bug, but it is kind of weird.

I just updated to 4.52 and thought I had the same issue - but it was just a bad hair day (week, month, year - pick one) [:$]

I tried just about everything - tried to edit the pmail.ini and other posted suggestion, and then just for the heck of it I STRETCHED the miminzed icon to the size I wanted and now all is fine.

Hope this helps anyone else with this "problem".
