Pegasus refuses to create copy to self
Where is the config file he is referring to and how do you modify it?
STATE.PMJ, either in the user's home or new mailbox directory (see Help => About Pegasus Mail => Info for paths). Close Pegasus Mail, open the file with a simple plain text editor like NotePad and remove the line starting with Select a mail folder RS= in the [SELFOL] section. After restarting Pegasus Mail it should return to using default values.

I went back a month, didn't see anyone else post about this.  Pegasus won't save copies, period, whether it's a reply or a new outgoing message.

I have copy to self checked (enabled) in the Messages and Replies rule page.  There's a checkbox on the message editor for copy to self and that's always checked.  And I also have it set in Messages and Replies to ask me where to store the copy at send time.

Despite the controls Pmail will not make a copy in ANY folder, nor (incidentally) will it save a draft copy if I hit <Ctrl-S>.  I've tried this in both 4.52 and 4.51 with the same result.  And tried using just an "all in one folder" setting.  And toggling all the above settings off and on.  None of these has produced any change.  I've tried double-checking the permissions too, but they're fine (I have administrator privileges, running XP Pro SP3).

This is quite recent, perhaps the last 7-10 days.  I've been using Pegasus since the very early '90s and have never seen this before.  I'm stumped!!  [*-)]

You haven't , by any chance, set up any copy to self filtering rules?

Cheers,

I've noticed this behavior for local mailboxes (directory path) that have been added, but copies to self in my normal folders on the network work just fine.  This was with v4.51, I haven't tested it with 4.52 yet.

Sorry for the long delay in responding here.  I was offline for close to two

weeks while the computer underwent surgery.

Thanks for the suggestions.  No, I don't have any copy-to-self.  As for my folders, I've had them for years, basically, in the same directory hierarchy with the program (e:\pmail).  I'm a solo user, no network.

I did find I could

manually copy outgoing mail by opening the mail queue, where there;s a

copy button.  That works, but kind of defeats the purpose of having the

program prompt for the folder to save to.

I may have unwittingly replied twice.  If so, pls. pardon the faux paus.

OK, here's an idea out of left field (and therefore perhaps useless)...

Is it possible that although your options are set to copy-to-self, your mail folders are set to use a different identity as default? An identity which somehow does not have the right copy-to-self settings?

Just a thought...

Someone at our office was having odd behaviors similar to this. In their case, they would send the file and the program seemingly "hung".

After some diagnosis, I found that the prompt dialog box asking him where to save it was coming up off the visible window so it could not be seen. The program wasnt actually hung, it was sitting at a modal dialog box waiting for user input. A little tweaking of the appropriate config file containing saved dialog window positions fixed the issue.

I wonder, when you have it configure to ask you where to store the copy, do you experience any of these "symptoms"?

I apologize, I didn't see this immediately.

Your post is ironic because suddenly I'm getting more erratic behavior in my Pegasus installation.  After close to two decades without any problems, suddenly message windows will only open either minimized or maximized, but not in between.  I'm stumped as to why.  I haven't changed anything in the configuration.

I  will definitely investigate whether there's a window opening anywhere that I'm not seeing and post here.  Thanks for the suggestion.  [:)]

I just use a single identity (admin) throughout the program.  I'm a solo user.

I don't even know how to set folders for a particular identity, and I've never (knowingly)  done so.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did once again send a passel of test messages, with the same results.  No copies to self, no prompts to make the same.  I checked for hidden windows (the windows menu) and saw only the main folder, my folders window, and the message window I was currently sending.

I looked in System Messages (accessed from the Windows menu) and saw this:

Mon, 19:53:11    Copy-self rule processing: No messages triggered any rules.

which would seem to imply that I need to have created rules in order to copy to myself.  But this was never necessary before and I've never had any such rules.

I explained (I think) in my original post that I reverted back to v4.51 when this problem first appeared and had the same difficulty with 4.51.   [^o)]

This is precisely the problem that we are experiencing.  The Window with the list of folders asking where to store the copy-to-self seems to be opening but it is not visible.  The only way to get out of Pegasus is the Windows Task Manager.  I am not talented enough to follow the posters solution with the above information.  Where is the config file he is referring to and how do you modify it?

Thanks,

Ralph
