Spontaneous Problems with SSL

Update: I tried connecting via secure connection with my Windows Mobile device while I was watching the SMTP server window.  It shows 2 failed login attempts each time I attempted to send a message:

Connection from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

(High ASCII characters)

Connection from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

EHLO Inbox

QUIT

I've been using STARTTLS (with two different installations of Pegasus) and SSL from my Windows Mobile 6.0 device (Pocket Outlook) for years to access mail on my family's Mercury mail server. Suddenly, last week I started getting errors across the board when trying to send mail.  If I disable security, the mail sends, but I don't want to keep doing this because I don't want someone to get my SMTP password and turn my server into a spam relay.  I haven't touched the server.  Pegasus is throwing me "Error -41 activating SSL session (locus 6014, type 4, code 0, 'No data was read because the remote system closed the connection (recv() == 0)')"
What does this error mean?  Could my ISP have thrown a port block up?

Seems like it has to be server-side since 3 different email programs on 3 different systems all started having problems at the same time, but since I haven't changed a thing on the server I find it extra odd.

Thanks for any insight!
