Pegasus Mail Suggestions
Autofiltering on folder close

Autofiltering suggestions:

I have two suggestions on my Autofilter wishlist, (the first being an alternative to one somewhere else in this thread):

Indicator for incoming autofiltered mail
When incoming mail is automatically filtered to folders, would it be possible to have some indicator, perhaps floating in the New Mail folder window, advising that some new mails have gone directly to other folders?

Without this, checking new mail always involves checking not only the NewMaill folder but also the Folder Listing, just in case..............

Autofiltering exceptions
Also, could we have an "autfiltering exception" box to ensure that mail with specified addresses don't get autofiltered? Like my own! On occasions moving mail with multiple addresses into an autofiltered folder, the odd address that you didn't want or need specifically associated with an autofiltered folder slips through. Then later you start the game of "hunt the missing email" until you find it buried somewhere you didn't expect!

I appreciate there are manual controls to prevent this happening; wouldn't it be easier simply to tell the gatekeeper, programmatically, who not to allow in?

I was wondering whether it could be made possible to enable autofiltering (the filing part, that is) on new mail folder close rather than folder open, as that would avoid the two extra mouse-clicks currently needed (in folder list mode) to read the mail in the folder to which it has been moved.

Cheers!
Steffan

I just came across this post because a user asked me if it was possible to have read messages in the new mail folder be automatically filed after he reads them.  The suggestion Steffan made would essentially make that possible.

Personally, I don't use filing because I use the new mail folder as a sort of giant to-do list.  As such, I intentionally leave things in the inbox.  However, I think if there was a button (say between delete and print) and/or key stroke combination I could use to trigger the "autofiling" of a message, I would definitely use it.  In that case I would also like to see an expansion of autofiltering rules.  For example, the ability to set up wildcard addresses in the autofilter (e.g. *@domain.com) or perhaps even more elaborate filtering rules like subject matches.   I think you could accomplish something similar to this by creating individual rules, but (a) I can't seem to find a way to conveniently trigger them on a message by message basis (e.g. via a keystroke) and (b) I think users would find it much easier and more intuitive to manage filtering via the per-folder autofiltering mechanism.

Food for thought.

Actually your user can do what they want already using Tools > Mail filtering rules > Edit new mail filtering rules > Rules applied when folder is closed

Very easy to set it so that any messages that have been marked as read (or coloured or something) get moved to another folder when you leave the main inbox.

Steffan started this thread to ask about Autofiltering, which is a completely different and fairly new feature in Pegasus.
