Multiple simultaneous users of one e-mail account.

Thanks Dilbert,

That explains a lot, I'll get working on setting up Mercury as our mail server and accessing from eth various workstations through IMAP4.

 All very exciting...

We use a single account in Pegasus for all our company e-mail that is accessed simultaneously from three or four different computers.  Or rather it isn't as the network (WindowsXP) freezes if more than one person has the account open.

How do I enable multiple users?  Do I need to invest in a Server and Mercury mail transport?

Many thanks for any help.

You cannot have more than one user running PMail as the same user.  You need to create multiple users in PMail and then setup a multiple user system using IMAP4

How do I enable multiple users?  Do I need to invest in a Server and Mercury mail transport?

This would help since each of the users could then be accessing this single account using IMAP4.  Each user would be running a separate local PMail account and attaching to the mercury IMAP server to access the single account.

You probably don't need a separate machine to be your server.

Mercury will run happily on one of your existing workstations.

This depends, of course, on your particular setup and usage, but I would try this first, before splashing out on a new machine.

Thanks Chaps,

Sorry to be a little thick, but what's IMAP4?  Or, where can I find the information I need?  I'm sure I can figure it out with a little background reading...

Many thanks,

In loose terms, IMAP is a protocol for reading email, as is POP.

With POP3, the client connects to the server and downloads the email to the local machine for reading and storage, removing it from the mailbox on the server (usually).

With IMAP4, the mail is stored on the server and can be read, replied to and organised into folders by separate (and multiple) mail clients on different PC's.

MercuryI is the IMAP4 server module, and the help provides info on setting it up.

I would suggest setting up a test user on Mercury, and connecting to it via IMAP4 with your mail client to see how it works, and work out how you could use it for your needs.

Be aware that the same mailbox/username can be accessed by both POP3 & IMAP.
