MercuryD configscreen fails under Vista?

[quote user="erikdr"]

Okay, it WAS Vista. The Ini file which was correctly personalised was done so during the install, and then due to Vista''s defaults the Mercury installer uses elevated rights. Normal Mercury config util can not get these rights [:P]

Tnx a lot to all, more questions to come for next stepz,

Can you please describe how you personalized .ini file and what changes you did? I have the same problem on Vista and want to solve it without reinstalling. Thanks for help!

Hi friends,

 Started the uphill battle of migrating to Mercury from a defunct local soho mail server...

Try to configure MercuryD to get my domain mailbox from the POP server (and then distribute locally). Can ADD the Pop Account, then SAVE the config, and then reopening the MercuryD config screen it's   ..... gone...

 Am I missing something, or hit a bug, where to check under the hood what exactly is happening?

Tnx in advance,

<Erik>

Is this happening for ALL settings? or just MercD...

I suspect Mercury is unable to write it's config files due to Vista's restricting it's rights.

Is it installed in "Program Files" ?

Hmmmm.. tnx for the hint but it's only MercuryD. e.g. MercuryS I can change. It's Program Files yep but AFIK I am logged in with admin rights (agree, no guarantee in Vista and Win7...)

 Found this in the support wiki but it's a 2002 issue so presumably fixed:

"The MercuryD POP3 Client protocol module keeps a certain POP3 configuration file open while it is active, thus making it unavailable to any user modification from within Mercury/32. To work around the problem, simply pause the MercuryD module and wait for it to enter its idle mode before making changes to the MercuryD POP3 configuration entries."

And of course also paused and later exited MercuryD, no success yet. Other hints? Where is the config file so that I can do low-level checks (no edits, encryption coz of POP passwords in it)?

Tnx,

 <Erik>

Mercuryd.dat is the file that holds the info, check it's permissions & timestamp.

Mine has an encrypted line with my connection details but the comments header shows a plain text example line, you may be able to add your data with a text editor.

Edit: This thread seems similar to your problem, and from what I gather from here, adding the data in plain text should work.

On the right track, no changes since install and Program Files has some nice inherited RO mask. [6]

 Will continue in 2 days time and report back if more troubles, tnx...

Maybe MOVE the whole dir to C:\Mercury & change the paths in Mercury.ini ( & clam / spam .ini etc).

Gee thanks MS, I feel so much safer now that MY OWN COMPUTER will not do what I tell it. [:@]

Oh wait, what? It's not MY computer anymore? ....

 One thing that would help a lot is a look at your mercury.ini file.  Post a copy here and we'll give you a bit of analysis.  It's a lot easier to help after seeing the configuration.
