"Relay Access Denied" when sending email from different location

I created a GMail account and followed your instructions and it seems to be working - thanks. The wireless network is not my own network - it is various wireless networks that I connect to when I am traveling (hotels, coffee shops, etc).

I now intend using IMAP to sync my local PMail with my GMail account... I have a whole host of queries about that, but I'll send those in a new thread.

Thanks,

Ros.

I've searched the forums to see if this is answered, but I haven't managed to solve my problem with the information I've gleaned from other posts.

I'm using Pegasus Mail Version 4.41 (Win 32). When I'm home, and connecting to the Internet via my usual Service Provider, I have no trouble sending email, specifying the SMTP server of my ISP. When I connect to the Internet via a different route - from a wireless network, say, I am unable to send email, and always get the error:

------------

Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following
reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail
relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:

   554 5.7.1 <rbrodie@lantic.net>: Relay access denied

--------------

I have fiddled with various options in the SMTP setting, in the Network Configuration Section, but nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions would be more appreciated.

Thanks,

Ros.

Hello Ros,

The wireless network - your mentioned - is your network? You have to use the SMTP-settings for that network and they are probably not the same as your (home)network.
If you have a GMail-account you can use their SMTP-server for sending mail from places others than your homenetwork.
Take a look at:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=nl&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http://www.pegasusmail.nl/tip42.php (under SMTP Setup) for settings for using GMail's SMTP with Pegasus Mail.

Succes.

Could you please provide more information?  A session log showing the options available on your ISP's SMTP host might help a lot.

Then again, this may be being caused by port 25 redirection and you are not getting to your ISP's server at all so a session log showing the failure is also required.

If you are do authentication make sure you munge the password.
