.101 message left in merc queue when Pmail crashes

Thanks, Thomas.  I'll try to get us on 4.41. No Windows 7 systems, yet!

I've noticed for a while stray .101 files left in our Mercury queue.  I can easily go in and delete them (I wait until the end of the day usually).  I finally determined they end up in there whenever someone creates and sends a Pmail message and it crashes on them (usually when they have replied to a message that contains non-standard HTML in it).  The .101 files only have a to: address in them, nothing more.

Anyway to prevent that from occurring (having the .101 file sent to Merc, or having it stay in Merc until I see it an remove it?)  I assume it's there because there's really nothing to split out (QCF and QDF).

 Thanks in advance,

Val

Preventing .101 files being created in the queue will stop Pegasus clients from sending any mail. :)

If it is an invalid .101 file, mercury will just ignore it.

Yes, but I have to go in and deleted them.  Is there any "automated" way in Mercury to clear out those .101 files if they are left behind like that?

Thanks!

Nope, partial *.101 files are normal and exist when PMail is writing the file so Mercury must simply ignore them.  This really should not be happening though.  I've only seen this happen rarely, maybe 1 or 2 times over the years.  Do you have you anti-virus software fighting with PMail and Mercury when writing these files?

No the antivirus has been turned way down.  It appears to be when Pegasus mail crashes on a reply to an HTML email (bad HTML).  It's repeatable, and every time I've seen a .101 left in the queue, I've tried to find who it belonged to and asked them if their Pegasus crashed and they say yes, and we look at the message it crashed on, and it is always an HTML message.  Was this issue fixed in a later version of Pmail?  We are still on 4.31.  If these users do a reply to the HTML email and uncheck the rich text option, the email goes out and no crashes.

There were a lot of HTML editing/sending fixes since v4.31.  You need to upgrade to at least v4.41, I'd recommend v4.51 if you have no Win7 systems.  With Win7 you really need v4.52 with the Win7 fixes.
