Downloading n of m, but less than m messages turn up

I have checked my Pegasus setups and none of my POP3 settings have anything setup in the "Download Controls" tab - no size limits, message limits, filters... My ISP server doesn't have any mail "left behind". I haven't noticed the problem on my accounts for a while, so it probably isn't a problem now.

I'll check the settings on my friends laptop when I see them...

Thanks for the clues.

Sometimes when I download mail Pegasus will say "Downloading 1 of 10..." and go through getting a few messages. But it doesn't get all 10, it stops after 6, 7, 8 messages. These happily appear in the new messages folder. If I try to get mail again, there is nothing on the server.

1) What happened to the remainder of the 10 messages?

I have noticed this on my system (V4.52 on WinXP SP3) and a friend's system (V4.52 on Windows7). I think I also noticed this when I was running V4.51.

Maybe the initial message counting is faulty and there is no real problem. I haven't come across anyone who claims to have sent me a message that I never received, so I am not aware of ever having lost anything.

2) Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Between downloading each message, the status line says it is "Clearing mail on host". This looks like it clears each message individually as it is downloaded. But if my mail download gets interrupted (connection drops out...), and I download again I get all the messages again. It seems to really only delete on the server when the download of ALL messages is finished successfully.

 3) Is this a feature of Pegasus or of the mail server?

Thanks

They are still on the server.  You have some download control set to not download these messages.  Try using Selective Mail Download and see what's left and then go to the POP3 setup and see what download limits you have set.  This also can be a POP3 filter set but you did not mention you were using POP3 filters.
