4.52 - HTML messages displayed in blue font

MS Outlook marks up the sender text in blue, as a standard. This can be changed too. Any way, a good number of people asked me to make messages look like Outlook as much as possible so they look alike when printed off. Hence the option.  The default is back to black now that a number of people have said "Not me" This is included in the soon to be generally released  Bearhtml 4.6.7.

Here we go, I indicated this very same problem with 4.51 on a Win9x + KernelEx system  last year, see thread.

This time it is Pegasus Mail 4.52, freshly set up on Windows 7.

Problem description:

HTML email display is broken. Most

HTML messages are displayed in blue font, regardless of

actual message formatting. This happens in the message viewer window, just as in the preview pane.

Very interestingly, when viewing the same (multi-part) message in the

attachment preview tab, clicking on the HTML part results in *correct*

HTML formatting, with correct font size/colour/etc. However, back in

the message view tab the message is still displayed incorrectly.

This is a fresh setup, the only HTML message in the "New mail folder" is the one titled "Welcome to Pegasus Mail" by David Harris. That email is displayed in blue.

I cannot believe I am the only one seeing this again, come on. Any ideas?

OK, getting somewhere.

The "blue" colour used to my chagrin is actually taken from "bearhtml.ini". Changing the colour in the config line "defaultfontcolor=blue" will change the colouring of the font on most HTML messages. Logically, commenting that line out takes care of the problem altogether, HTML messages will just be displayed in black, just as all others.

Thus problem solved, Heureca!

The question arises: is this a bug, or a MS-style "feature"? [:S]

I am serious. This silly thing gave me a grave headache last year, led to all kinds of analysis by all kinds of process/thread/dependency viewers. I could solve that with disabling KernelEx for Pegasus Mail. But then I bump right up against the same bug with Windows7 and Pegasus 4.52 again. Unbelievable.

But this even eluded Martin, the developer who created bearhtml for us. Wow! How come none of us made the connection here? Any comments, Martin?[;)]

Anyway. My - now obviously more complete - understanding of this issue is that bearhtml is hard-wired to set a default font colour for HTML messages that do not specify font colours explicitely. So if you like reading most HTML emails in blue, fine, enjoy it, but if you are rather annoyed by this - like myself - then just either change the default colour or rather comment out that line in bearhtml.ini, and be well again.

Sorry for being a bit long-winded.

HTML email display is broken. Most HTML messages are displayed in blue font.

Edit the bearhtml.ini file and set the default font color to black or what ever color you want.
