pdf files being converted to dat

Yes, DATs are an Outlook thing and therefore it's not your end of things which is broken. If you can't get the sender to change their settings, you'll have to follow the advice in the post above. Plenty of info on the web about DAT attachments if you search for it.

Any pdf files attached are being converted to dat files and cannot be opened.  I don't know if this happened when I upgraded Pegasus or McAfee.  I have tried changing various settings in both and no results.  Has anyone run into this?  Thanks

Might be McAfee doing this as a security device, it's not pmail.  What happens when the .DAT is manually changed to .PDF and opened in Acrobat reader?

It does not open that way either.  The error message is "adobe could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).   The file name is winmail.dat, file type unknown.    The only way I knew what was going on was that I looked at our mail on the IP Server before pulling into Pegasus...and it is a pdf file there and named 06_03.pdf.

I tried defining .pdf as an attachment type and as a filename extenstion in content viewers.  I also tried unchecking decode MIME encoded files in McAfee.

I have tried every other logical box to uncheck or check on McAfee, but will search their site more.  Thanks

The sender's mailer is encoding the eMail using the MS TNEF format. You need to install and use fentun to decode the winmail.dat "attachments"

I think Thomas has posted instructions in the forum  (search for Fentun).
