RECOVERING MAIL PLEASE HELP--My mail restoration is not working

Your mail folder (subdirectory) contains configuration data but not any email messages. Email messages are contained within the *.pmm folder files and companion *.pmi index files if stored in messages folders. If they are still "new mail" the messages are in *.cnm new mail files. In a default install your home mail box would be c:\pmail\mail\<username> or the default c:\pmail\mail\admin location.

In WinPMail do Help menu, About... and hit the Info button to see where your install shows your home mail box location and your new mail location. Search those locations for *.pmm and *.pmi and for any *.cnm files and report back what you find. At the least you will need to copy all *.pmm and *.pmi files and *.cnm files from the old location to the new location making sure none of the files are marked read only by the OS system. If they are you will need to remove the read only attributes because Pegasus Mail can not work with read only attribute message files. Many backup programs and cdroms mark files as read only.

I am trying to restore saved emails to Pegasus I just installed on a crashed computer.  My backup is in tact but I can't seem to locate the file that has my stored email in it.  Can you tell me the name of that file and where it is located.  I used the default setup when i originally install Pegasus.  Thank you.

To be more clear, I have Perasus up and running and know that my old mail is in the backup "Mail" file. However I don't understand how to merge the backed up mail file into the new mailfile, which has quite a few emails in it already.  Is there some way to MERGE the new mail folder with the backup?  Thanks

There's not only one file ... it's a whole directory.

Open your newly installed Pegasus and open Help -> About Pegasus Mail ... -> Info

There you will find 'Home Mailbox Location' (or New Mailbox Location). The location should - if the old installation had default setup too - be the same on your backup.

After a second crash when my motherboard burned out, I am again trying to restore my old files.  This time I am unsucsessful to date.  Here is what I have done. I loaded a new copy of Pegasus onto my NEW computer. I then copied by backed up "MAIL" file into the Pmail file (where it was located previously). But when I open Pegasus this time, the old file directory and emails are NOT there.  I am confused since I overwrote the newly installed Pegasus files with my older versions. I though just opening the file would allow me to see my old email.  Is there a step I am missing? Any help would be very appreciated.
