AW: Position of Junk or suspicious mail folder

Yes....but I want the "sent" folder to sort with the "Ses" and don't get why it sorts above the "As." I guess I'll have to call it "sended" and move all the copies to self there....sigh. But there has to be a reason for this wackiness. I never saw it in earlier versions, Rolling Stones be damned! :-p

Hello, I am running Pmail 4.52 and my folder tree in the Preview mode has expanded to the degree that the Junk mail folder has disappeared off the bottom of the window. Now, when i want to drag a message to this folder I first have to scroll down the tree and then drag the"offending" message to the Junk mail folder. This is a nuisance and I would like to reposition this folder near the top of the tree, say just below or above "Deleted Messages". One way to do this would be to rename the "Junk or ....." folder to something like "A_Junk ....". But the Junk mail folder is more than a place to put junk mail. So, if I rename it, how do I tell Pmail to look for "A_Junk...." instead of "Junk or ...."? Is this even possible?

Any other suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Goto Tools => Spam and content controls => Spamhalter and select your folder.

You can force positioning of any folder by adding a 'sorting' key to that folder's entry in hierarch.pmm  Simply add ",0,nn" (without the quotes) at the end of the entry, where nn is a non-zero positive integer.  The higher this integer, the higher up that folder will appear.  Here are a couple of examples showing the order (descending) in the folder list...

0,0,"7899EAA5:372C:COPYSELF","1BFB1755:My mailbox","~Copies to Self",0,20

0,0,"ZINMKDXL:430F:FOL072EA","1BFB1755:My mailbox","~Reserve-Register-Renew",0,20

0,0,"H8FZVTR7:6F6F:FOL07F8A","1BFB1755:My mailbox","~Junk or suspicious mail",0,10

When the integers are equal, the sort is alphanumeric.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, John, it has certainly helped me. I've been struggling with this (or rather folder hierarchy in general)  for some time and, until now, went with PaulW's suggestion (in a previous thread) of adding a numerical value to the folder's name, which didn't work completely satisfactorily for me unless I missed something somewhere, which can't be ruled out :-). Anyway, although I don't mind toying a little with *.ini or similar files, other users may and I hope David will consider offering a somewhat larger measure of folder hierarchy control as a feature of the next version of Pegasus.

Cheers!

I'm running 4.7 and find that if I edit heirarch.pm something re-writes the file when Pegasus runs so that my changes get overwritten with the settings I'm trying to change. Any ideas?

Edits you make to the heirarch file will not stick.  On startup, Pegasus Mail polls every folder file and "corrects" the heirach accordingly.  The heirarch file gets updated on shutdown as well with any folder additions or deletions  If you want a junk mail folder in a different location in the folder list then create one with a name that places it where you want it then assign it as the junk folder in Spamhalter and/or in the Content Control definition set(s) (ie: a folder name of "_Junk" will place it under the system folders at the top of the list).

A space as first "character" of the folder name will place the folder at the top and a [ALT] + 255 as first character will place it at the end.

 HTH

Thank you, but why can't I have my "sent" and "deleted messages" just list alphabetically like everything else? They're in positions 1 and 3 in the mailbox (recent searches, which  want to eliminate altogether) is in position 2. Everything after that sorts alphabetically.

How does that Rolling Stones song go... "You can't always get what you want...You get what you need."?  Only you can say whether you get what you need but know that system folder are always at the top of the list.  They include New mail, Copies to self, Recent search results, and Deleted messages.  So, how do you get what you want?  Here is what comes to mind that you can and can not control.

The only control you have over the deleted messages folder is whether it is permanent or gets deleted when Pegasus Mail closes.  Tools > Options > General settings > Basic settings.

As for the sent message folder (I assume that is the "Copies to self"?), you can change that to whatever you want.  If you want a copies to self folder to sort with the "C's" then create a new folder called something like "Copyself" and configure it as your copies to self folder. Tools > Options > Outgoing mail > Copies to self ('outbox').

Regarding the search results folder, it can be configured to delete on exit.  Tools > Options > Incoming mail > Folder behaviours.
