Notsplit (by Martin Ireland)
If there is no temp, I don't feel comfortable dumping several thousand individual messages into the Windows directory.
This is a good reason but can easily be avoided by creating a subdirectory - which is a (IMO) a good idea anyway as the TEMP folder may already be populated with lots of various files confusing the user.

Notsplit is a utility I have been looking for. But I cannot get it to function. There are a number of points.

 1. Not all the *.pmm files found in \MAIL\user_id\ appear in the File/Open window

(what is meant by "Determine real file name of folder from Folder Properties in Pegasus Mail? The folder name is the same as that shown in Windows Explorer as far as I can tell. Should it be different?)

 2. Choosing a *.pmm file and selecting File/Split generates a I/O Error 103 in Notsplit and I can only close everything

 3. Assuming I can get Notsplit to work, where does the temp.dir containing the *.cnm messages appear?

Any help appreciated.

1.  The folder names provided by Pegasus Mail are the "friendly" user-assigned names like "My Messages" but what you need is the *.pmm filename that is the operating system name assigned. All of the folders should be in the same place, for a particular user. That does not include public folders which are in the Base directory one level up.

2/3.  It sounds like you do not have a TEMP dir assigned as an environmental variable.   Run a DOS CMD in order to check environmental variables. Type in SET  at its commandline to get a list.

Martin,

you can avoid this issue by using the WinAPI function GetTempPath(), quote from the help file:
The GetTempPath function checks for the existence of environment

variables in the following order and uses the first path found:

 1. The path specified by the TMP environment variable.

 2. The path specified by the TEMP environment variable.

 3. The path specified by the USERPROFILE environment variable.

 4. The Windows directory.

Thanks Michael, but all I am trying to do at this point is find a directory that is R/W but not in the Pegasus Mail NewMail structure. If there is no temp, I don't feel comfortable dumping several thousand individual messages into the Windows directory. I will see what the user responds with, to get things going
