Yes, it is the new mail folder that has the problem. On average I have a 100-150 or more messages and they usually average under 10k but some can be near 100K in size. I know I should not keep that many messages in the New Mail folder but its quite normal for me before I have time to sort them. However the good news is that I believe I may have the crash problem solved since I read somewhere that html mail messages may be a crash problem for PM.
First, I did a new installation of PM v4.52. Then using Windows Explorer I copied the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><stockticker><span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt">MAIL</span></stockticker> folder from the old v.4.31 to the new install v.4.52 on my system so I could keep all my old e-mails and folders organized same as the old version and still keep the old program in case my attempt failed. When during the copying it asked to replace a folder of the same name, I selected “Replace All”.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Second step was to again use Windows Explorer and open the C:\PMailv4.52\<stockticker><span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt">MAIL</span></stockticker>\ADMIN folder (where my PM v4.52 was installed) and delete all the files with the .CNM new mail extensions. Now I was able to open the newly installed programs with the old stored mail folders and without any New Mail files crashing the program.
The last task was to slowly copy the .CNM files from my old program’s ADMIN folder to the new v4.52 programs’ ADMIN folder. I used the dates on the .CNM files and moved them at about ten at a time. Each time I moved a batch of CNM files I would check to see if the v4.52 program would open and if it did I would also check the Properties of each e-mail to make sure it did not contain any HTML data. Any e-mail that had HTML data was deleted. If the PM v4.52 program froze on start up then I deleted the most recently moved batch of CNM files and reduced the batch that was being moved until I found which file was causing the crash on the v4.52 program. Needless to say it was tedious work but it seemed to fix my problem – I hope for the long term.
I'll do the same with my older version (v4.31) tomorrow just to see if it will also fix that crash problem as well since that is where it all started. I thank you Michael for your kind reply. There may be an easier fix then my lame solution so I'd be glad to have your thoughts on the topic.
