Mercury service needs licence?

There is more information about the licensing terms for Mercury here: http://mlicense.pmail.gen.nz/mlic

Hello,

I run Mercury 32 as a service on an WinXP machine. Mercury was initially installed as part of XAAMP. A few days ago it started to refuse to load and, occasionally, pops up a window with the following message: "Mercury 32 needs a valid license to run as a service".

Initially I had no problems (it worked without such an issue for approximately one week). Today I went through a Windows "System Restore" routine and the problem went away (but, I suppose this is just a temporary fix...)

Do I need to obtain a license in order to run the program as a service? I went through the licensing requirements found in the manual and I suppose I do not (I am using it for a small home network - 5 computers).

Any help will be greatly appreciated - I am far from an expert on these issues...

The licensing terms (http://community.pmail.com/pmail/MercuryPricing.aspx) say:

In order to run Mercury/32 v4.7x and later as a windows service, you have to purchase and install a valid license.

This applies to non-commercial users as well. If you represent a charitable organisation or for other reasons feel you should have a free license, you can apply for a donated license here: http://mlicense.pmail.gen.nz/mlic/donate.htm

Rolf,

Thank you for the reply, it is very appreciated.

I didn't realize I had to get a license to run as a service. I doubt if I am eligible for a free license (I do not represent anyone really, I just run a small home network).

I suppose I need to look for an open source solution.

Again, thank for the help.

I think you should apply for a free license anyway, it's not just for charities and schools.

Furthermore, there are some free tools around that you can use to run Mercury as a service:

Hi Rolf,

Can you please explain more about the below licensing term,

In order to run Mercury/32 v4.7x and later as a windows service, you have to purchase and install a valid license.

Commercial organizations may install and run Mercury for up to sixty days (to allow evaluation) before purchasing a license

Thanks in advance.
