Clearing mail on host

The refresh new mail folder option is set to 300 secs. I've never quite understood what that means, though - I take it that's not the same as Check POP3 host for new mail?

The lengthy timeout to clear mail on host is a new behavior, over the past couple weeks. Again, I'm nowhere near the 750 message limit...

Lately, Peg seems to hang at "Clearing mail on host" - goes away after about 30 seconds, but the new messages don't appear unless I refresh the New Mail screen (ctrl-w). Host is mail.comcast.net.  Any idea why this might be happening?  Thanks!

Maybe you hit the auto-refresh limit for new mails, see this post.

Thanks, but I'm nowhere close to the 750 message limit - we're talking maybe 20-30 messages...

The new mail shows in the new mail folder when the new mail folder is scanned for new mail.  Check the setting of Tools | Options |  Refresh the new mail folder view every x secs

This option controls how frequently Pegasus Mail should scan your new mail folder for new mail while the newmail window is in the foreground. The default is to update the list every three seconds, but this can generate a lot of Network traffic and can degrade your machine's performance, especially if you are connected to your server across a slow link. Setting this field to -1 will disable new mail polling altogether - the new mail window will only be updated when you explicitly choose "New mail" from the "File" menu, or click the "New mail" Icon in thetoolbar. If your new mail folder contains more than 750 messages, Pegasus Mail will stop doing automatic updates of the folder for performance reasons, and will check for new mail in your new mail folder less frequently.
