Linking to Picasa

Steffan,

I think their Mapi coding is faulty. I will contact Picasa to let them know of the problem. Their forum has many articles on email problems if you don't use their web solution (needs uploading of photos to their web site).

I have been unsuccessful in using Picasa's option to email photos via my default mail program (Pegasus). Using Picasa's troubleshooting guidelines, the problem seems to be with Pegasus. I use v4.52 and XP. I'm a beginner so please respond simply and step by step. Thanks. Ellebelle.

Try again after installing MAPI support.

. I ran wpmmapi.exe and selected "Simple MAPI" - NOT MAPI 1.0, and it worked like a charm.

Well, this is a pretty outdated tool (hence my link to a more up-to-date version), but fine if it works for you ...

I'm also having a problem with this. Whenever I try to email pictures from Picasa using Pmail, Picasa (or mapi? I really don't know how this works) opens multiple instances of Pmail, all (all=two instances besides the one already open) producing the Mailbox is locked message, which I need to get rid of by clicking the exit button. Anyone (Michael? Martin? [:)]) any thoughts on this?

Cheers!

Did your run setpmdefault.exe on this machine as administrator?

On my machine it doesn't work at all, it doesn't even create log-file entries in mapipm.log. Steffan, if you create such an empty file in you mailbox directory it should create some logging details for Martin since it appears to work at least somehow on your machine.

MapiPM will always attempt logging if a file is supplied. It starts with a simple header with version info.  If you aren't seeing this, then MapiPM is not being called to do either MapiSendMail or MapiSendDocuments. It is important that the registry has Pegasus Mail as a mail client, and also MapiPM is one of a list of Dlls that can be used.

Jerry, yes, I did.

Martin, you've hit the nail on the head. Mapi is not logging anything, so apparently it's not being called. I don't know why though.

Cheers!

Steffan,

In the Registry under key HKLM look at Software/Clients/Mail/Pegasus Mail. The default value should be Pegasus Mail, and the DLLPath value should point to where MapiPM.dll is located.

Secondly the default value at Software/Clients/Mail should be Pegasus Mail

Martin, I already told you that it doesn't work despite of the proper Registry entries (since it works with other applications such as IE and the SendTo menu's Email Recipent option), SetPMDefault ensures they are set properly. Searching the Web for MAPI & Picasa appears to reveal that lots of email clients (including Windows Live Mail) don't work with Picasa, at least on Windows 7 - and all these clients are blamed for being not MAPI compliant! I just tested with Opera which doesn't work either with Picasa, at least on Windows 7. IMO Picasa isn't MAPI compliant (just tested on XP SP3 which it failed on as well).

Just want to confirm that Pegasus Mail is not invoked by Picasa, even though it is the default system mailer. Implies that Mapi is not being used.

Martin, all these values are there. However, there are two other keys in Software/Clients/Mail, which I'll remove to see what'll happen.

Cheers!
