New install and importing settings question

Hi Thomas

Many thanks for the quick reply, it's very much appreciated. I've printed out your reply to take along with me. Hopefully all will go smoothly and reading your reply and with what I already know of Pegasus Mail the time frame should be quiet short (they always seem to want something when I have a heavy workload with my main job!).

Again my thanks to you

Regards

Ron

Hi all,

I'm new to the group so I hope this subject is not out of place, apologies if it is.

I've been using Pegasus Mail for a number of years now, first time was around 1992 where I used it at work. Since then I've always used it at home and heading to the point of this email I recommend it when I can to others. About 4 years ago I installed a small office system for a company and recommended Pegasus Mail with their new internet installation. They have been happy with it but now have asked me if I could replace their now well used desktop PC's with laptops.

The laptops will be be running 'Windows 7' and I see that the latest version, Pegasus Mail v4.52, is better suited to the 'Windows 7' OS. Their current version of Pegasus Mail is v4.41. The question is: If I perform a new install of Pegasus Mail v4.52 onto the laptops what, apart from the 'mail' folder, do I need to copy across from the old version 4.41 to keep things simple so that I don't have to spend too much time re-creating users etc. as my time for this is limited.

Many thanks in advance

Regards

Ron

I assume that this is a standalone setup of Pegasus Mail where each user have the program and mail on their own system and are using POP3/IMAP4 to get their mail.

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info and note all the directories.  This is the directory structure you want to
    backup.

2.  Use the Windows backup program to backup the entire structure. In the multiuser made this means you'll have to
backup the top level structure to get all the user directories. You can simply ZIP these directories to a
CDROM and restore on the other end as well.

3.  Restore this to the new computer.

Note:

A.  If you are using a CDROM for backup make sure that the files did not get marked read only.  Use Explorer and check
    the file properties.

B.  If you changed drive letters then run pconfig.exe and change the drive letter of the home and new mail directory
to match the new location. You also should check the Mailbox: line in the *.PND files and make sure it's blank.

C.  If you want to upgrade in the process do it after you transfer the files and install it over the old installation using exactly
the same directory structure and options.

D.  For Win7 you must not be using c:\Program Files since Win7 does not allow data in this directory.  You should install to c:\pmail
instead and then move the HOME and NEW mail directory files to the directory c:\pmail\mail\admin.
