cannot download new mails

I have been using avast! for a few months now and do not use the mail shield figuring the realtime protection will help with new mail when written to the hd on download. Since Pegasus is safer than most due to Spamhalter / blacklist / blocking of scripts etc thought was the mail scanner would not be called for. YMMV.

I'm using Pegasus Mail 4.41, running under WinXP. Lately cannot receive new mails from one of my email account. I have multiple accounts, and they are set to download mail trough POP3 protocol in the New Mail folder. About a week ago noticed that my PC restarted during the night, while the Pegasus and other programs were open. Since then messages from one mailbox are not coming through, while messages from all other mailboxes appear just fine in the new mail folder. I can download new messages from that particular account with other email clients. I tried to delete and recreate the email account without success. I have 272 email in the pegasus new mail folder, so hitting the limit should not be an issue. I checked the folder structure and the mail folder contains 272 cnm files, so the problem should be with the dowloading part.

The strange thing is, when i try to download new messages from that server, the connection appears fine, i don't get any errors.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Alright, I found the culprit. It was the avast 5 mail shield, that was trying to force the mail download through SSL (port 995). Strange thing remains that the same configuration was working for months before the issue occurred last week.

 

Hope somebody being in the same situation, will find this info useful.
