Pegasus Mail Suggestions
forwarded message queue notification

Further, could forwarded messages be included in the count of messages waiting to be sent at the bottom of the pegasus window?  and in the system message window?  I find the current system a nuisance.

Further, could forwarded messages be included in the count of messages waiting to be sent at the bottom of the pegasus window?  and in the system message window?  I find the current system a nuisance.

Could the following be fixed please:

Forwarded mesages to be counted in the notification area at the bottom of the window, and put into the 'review queued mail window' as soon as the send button is pressed  like any other message.  At the moment it seems that they only appear if you open the 'review queued message; window, then close then open it again.

I have so often forwarded a message and then forgotten to send it because of this.

(I have moaned about this before, so if you have already done it, thanks)

I can't duplicate this in the current beta, can you please specify which kind of forwarding you refer to: bouncing or forwarding with editing (I guess the former)?

On checking, a bounce does seem to not show the symptoms.

In preview mode, with an empty message queue:

1. Forward a message with editing'.  On comleting the procedure, a 'message sent successfully' text appears at bottom of window, but there is no '1 queued' message, and the message does not appear in the 'file/review queued messages' window. button, and in fact, the message has not been sent, but if you reopen the 'review queued messages' window it is there, and a 1'queued' message then appears at the bottom of the window.

2. If you forward one message, then without opening the 'review queued mesages' window immediately select a second message to forward, then add the forwarding address, then when you press the 'forward' button in the addressing section, a '1 queued' notification appears, and on completing the spell check of the second message, a '2 queued' message, and a repeated 'message sent successfully' text apears.  However, still neither message appears when you first open the 'review queued messages' window, nor have they actually been sent.  But if you reopen the 'review queued messages window, then they are both there.

The worst thing about this is that whether they are shown or not you have to manually send forwarded messages to send them successfully even though you have had a mesage to say its been done.  My preference would be to have to send them as a positive action like any other message, but they should always show up in the queue and in the notification at the bottom of the window so that they don't get forgotten about, as has often happened when I discover at close down that an important forwarded message has been sitting in the queue unsent all day.

It is little irritations like this that have often had me on the verge of switching to another email client.  Another one is the confusion and the apparent 'sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't' surrounding deletion of an attachment from an incoming message.  And when you look through the archives, you have probably had as many emails about how to move a copy of Pegasus with messages from one computer to another as anything else.  Would it be possible to provide a basic 'migration tool' to move or copy PMAIL and all messages from //here: to //there: ?  I got my original copy of Pegasus off a computer magazine cover disk when I was a complete beginner.  If you are planning a promotion like that for version 5.0, then I think it has to be more idiot proof than it is now, or the casual newcomer will try it out and then move on.  if you want to build a groundswell of home-based users then I think that is more important than flashy graphics and layout.  Dedicated techies have a different p.o.v. I know !*?

BTW:  [:)] I couldn't insert anything in this reply box until after I had inserted a smiley from the menu.  I am using Opera10.62 (like some others, I consider using anything Microsoft to be sinful - but unfortunately Vista Business with SP2 comes with the machine.)

Thanks for your attention.

I'm not sure I understand: Do you have Send mail at once without placing in queue enabled in your SMTP definition? And if so are you saying forwarded messages are placed in queue instead of sent directly? I tested with queueing enabled for all messages and it works properly under all circumstances for me.

No, I don't have Send mail at once without placing in queue enabled.  If you do exactly what I explained, the result is as I described in my version of PMAIL 4.52

I did raise this once before (then, probably v4.51) and got the following response from bama.ua.edu:

"That's a "feature" that accompanies Pegasus Mail for some time. I'm not sure if this happened in v3.12c. The message still in queue, not as "ready to send" but as "final form" state, thus not allowing  additional editing. If you close your Queue Manager window and open it again you'll see the message waiting there."  reference: PM-WIN@bama.ua.edu   Wed, 08 Jul 2009 11:52:43 -0300

This response does not fully reflect the question I raised, but it does indicate that helpers at bama.ua.edu recognized this as something that was known about but apparently accepted as just one of those things you learn to ignore.

If you are using the beta for v5 then maybe it has been fixed - if so, great.  If not, then I suggest it merits further investigation. I'll try to help, though I think I have been as detailed as I can in describing the problem.

Sorry, tried again using 4.52, I can't duplicate this issue as described. And with regard to ready to send vs. final form: If I bounce a message I get the latter, if I forward with editing I get the former. I simply don't see anything going wrong here ...? And I don't see any updating issue either unless you keep the queue manager open all the time: If doing so the queue doesn't get updated on bouncing a message (and only on bouncing), but Pegasus Mail's status bar still indicates a message getting queued by increasing the queue message count.
