Going to a single user?

[quote user="CobraA1"]I've had Pegasus Mail set up for multiple "users" for some time - and I really want to go to just using one user. It's a bit annoying to type in the user name every time, and the other "users" I really don't use at all. Is there a way to merge the other users, and tell Pegasus to not ask me for a user name anymore?

Okay, here's how I went about it, although the situation is slightly different. The colleague for whom I did this is currently working on two computers, and she wanted a single-user installation on her second computer.

1. I created a new directory called c:\pmail. From the installation on computer 1, I copied the entire subdirectory named programs (the one in c:\pmail) to c:\pmail on computer 2.
2. In c:\pmail, I created a new subdirectory called mail, to which I copied all files from c:\pmail\mail\user.
3. In c:\pmail\programs, there is a file called pmail.cfg. I deleted that file while Pmail wasn't running and ran Pmail again. It behaved as if it was started for the first time, asking whether I wanted to install Pmail in single- or multi-user mode (and another mode, but I forgot and it's not relevant here). I chose single-user mode and created a new shortcut on the desktop. That's it.

Whatever you do, I would definitely heed Mr Stephenson's advice to make a complete backup of your current installation. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

No need to do so, just create (or modify) a (desktop or Start menu) shortcut to WINPM-32.EXE and add (via context menu after right-clicking the shortcut) the commandline switch -I Username resulting in something like X:\PMAIL\Programs\WINPM-32.EXE -I Username (depending on your Pegasus Mail path). If moving to a true single user setup is possible, I'd much prefer to do that than to deal with Windows shortcuts.

Going to single user means that you will need to attach the other mailboxes, move the mail from folders in the other mailboxes to new folders in the main mailbox and then copy all of the dist. lists,  addressbooks, etc into the mail mailbox.  This can be a real pain in the rear compared to editing a couple of command lines.

I'm about to do that for a colleague of mine and when I'm done I'll let you know how it went.

Cheers!

I barely used the other profiles at all, there's only one or two messages in them. It's not going to be an issue merging them; I just need to know how. Unless it's a state secret or something like that, I'd prefer actual instructions, thanks.

1.    use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info and get the mailbox structure.  The default setup is

c:\pmail\pmail            the pmail.usr file
C:\pmail\mail\username        the the PMail user directories

2.    Use Use Folders | Add mailbox to list and add each user directory.

3.    Move the mail from the folders in the added mail box to folders in the main mailbox.

4.    Disconnect the added mailboxes by using a right click on the added mailbox

5.    Use Addresses | User management and delete the extra mailboxes.  Make sure you do not delete the main mailbox.

Edit:  There are all sorts of chances here to break/delete the basic setup so make sure you backup the entire directory structure before you use this process.
